About this project

What does ICON - Inline Chat Object Notation add?

ICON (Inline Chat Object Notation) brings Bedrock-style emoji and item shortcodes to Java Edition—supercharged for modded Minecraft.

Type any item’s name surrounded by colons, and ICON dynamically renders it as a crisp, in-line icon directly on your screen.

Features

  • Universal Item Support: Works out of the box with every single item from vanilla and any installed mod.
  • Everywhere You Read: Renders inside chat messages, signs, written book pages, and item tooltips.
  • 100% Client-Side: Safe to use on vanilla servers and public multiplayer networks. The server stores raw text, so players without the mod just see the text shortcode without crashes or missing glyph boxes.
  • Zero Texture Packs Required: Dynamically pulls sprites directly from the game’s texture atlas in memory.
  • Developer API: Exposes a clean client-side event so other mod authors can register custom non-item shortcodes (fluids, energy units, mana icons, and custom GUI sprites).
