About this project
What does CITY LAWS! add?
City Law
City Law adds a living city dimension where crime has consequences. Citizens go about
their day, police patrol the streets, and if you break the law you will be chased,
restrained, escorted to a courthouse, tried, and sentenced.
Getting there
Find a City Pass in any village chest (30% chance), then right-click it. The pass takes
you to the city and brings you home again — it is never consumed.
The city
Streets run unbroken in every direction, with lots laid out between them:
- **Courthouse** — judge's bench, spectator seating, and the defendant's stand
- **Prison** — cells, a solitary block of indestructible alloy, and a few ways out for
the resourceful - **Police station** — holding cells, an armoury
- **Hospital, fire station, bank, shops, apartments, houses, parks**
Every district has a courthouse, a prison and a police station within roughly 200 blocks,
so justice is never far away.
The people
- **Citizens** — wander, flee danger, and trade goods for cash
- **Police** — fight monsters, taser suspects, break down doors during a chase
- **Doctors** — throw healing potions at injured citizens
- **Firefighters** — respond to fires and douse them from a distance
- **Assassins** — hunt citizens and players at night, and set fires
- **Judges** — preside over your trial
Crime and punishment
Hurting citizens, killing them, robbing the bank vault or setting fires raises your crime
score. Witnesses matter: if a citizen sees you, they call the police and the response is
immediate.
| Crime score | Restraint | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | Handcuffs | Payable by fine |
| 11–29 | Handcuffs | Ordinary cell |
| 30–49 | Rope | Ordinary cell |
| 50+ | Rope | Solitary confinement |
When police catch you, they cuff you, confiscate your armour, and **walk you to the
courthouse** — no instant teleport. At the stand you are held in place while the judge
hears the case, then sentenced.
Serving your sentence
- **Labour** — work the cell cauldron to cut your sentence
- **Escape** — there are ways out of an ordinary cell. Get caught again and it costs you
- **Solitary** — reinforced alloy, no tunnels, restraints stay on. Bring a bomb
Paying your debt
Crime fades slowly on its own, but you can also make it right: put out fires, or donate
cash to citizens.
Items
- **Handcuffs / Rope** — visible restraints that lock your hands, inventory and controls
- **Taser** — drops a fleeing suspect at range
- **Bomb** — the only thing that breaks reinforced alloy
- **Cash** — dropped by citizens, used for trade, fines and donations
- **City Pass** — travel between the overworld and the city
Hideouts
One house in five hides a trapdoor to an underground assassin bunker: beds, supplies,
weapons, and a contract table. Stand near it and the police lose your trail — useful when
you have just climbed out of a cell.
