About this project

What does reptilian warfare add?

Reptilian Warfare

Reptilian Warfare turns Minecraft's overworld into a war between monsters and the people trying to survive them. Villages are walled, fortified settlements defended by ranked hunters, siege ballistae and stone golems - and something out in the wild is big enough to knock them down. You pick a side. As a beast you grow through eleven stages, from a half-turned person with claws to a twelve-block monster with a beam weapon that leaves radioactive craters. As a hunter you climb a ladder of ranks, earning a piece of scale armour for each trial you complete, until a king trusts you with a lance. Both roads start with the same object, and the moment you decide what to do with it is the moment you choose a side.

Keys

  • G (hold): transform into your full beast form
  • V: half-transform, giving you claws and spines while staying person-sized
  • B: fire the beam (beast only)
  • R: roar
  • H: open your progression screen, which shows growth, abilities, colours and your next objective
  • X: summon troops (hunters, level 2 and up)

Commands (for admins and testing - they need cheats or op)

  • /reptilian growth <stage> - set your beast's growth stage
  • /reptilian form <form> - awaken a beast form without finding an eye
  • /reptilian role <role> - set yourself to hunter or beast
  • /reptilian hunter level|trial|troops - set hunter rank, complete the current trial, or reset the troop cooldown
  • /reptilian raid [stage] - call a kaiju raid on the nearest village
  • /reptilian hunt - bring the next hunter hunt forward to now
  • /reptilian crater <radius> <stage> - blow a beam crater where you stand
  • /reptilian golem - build a bulwark golem

Starting out

Everything begins with a reptilian eye. There's one in the chest at a void spire, a field of black stone spikes surrounded by glowing blue growth. Spires are most common in the ocean and in caves, and rarer above ground.

To become a monster, use the eye yourself. You'll start at stage 1, where you can only half-transform. Kill ten townsfolk while half-turned and the beast comes all the way out. After that you grow by killing kaiju your own size or bigger, and three rungs of the ladder are locked until you've broken the heart of a hamlet, a town and a city. Once you've turned, food stops working, you feed on the glowing growth at spires instead, and staying transformed draws hunting parties.

To become a hunter, take the eye to a hunter king instead. He lives in the keep at the centre of a walled village. Trade him the eye and he'll swear you in and give you a chestplate. From there every rank is a trial: kill a kaiju, defend a village, kill a stronger one, and finally stop an apocalypse single-handed. Each one earns you another piece of scale. Don't wear gear you haven't earned, it will kill you.
