Quick answer
Which FogControl release should I use?
fogcontrol-1.1.0.jar targets 1.20.1 with Forge. The project page does not say whether this file belongs on the client, dedicated server, or both. No extra mods listed for this file.
Where it goes
Is FogControl required on the client, server, or both?
The project page does not say whether this file belongs on the client, dedicated server, or both.
The source does not explicitly classify this release as client-only or server-only.
What else does fogcontrol-1.1.0.jar need?
fogcontrol-1.1.0.jar. Change the file and its required mods may change too.
This file does not list any required mods. Do not add a library just because a different file uses it.
We only count dependency files that match this setup. A file for another loader does not fill the gap.

About this project
What does FogControl add?
Fog Control
**Fog Control** lets server operators change the fog with simple commands. Every change is instantly synced to all players and saved with the world.
Unlike vanilla, the fog at the edge of your render distance doesn't have to be a solid wall. You decide how thick the fog is right in front of you and how thick it is at the render-distance edge, from crystal clear to a dense, moody haze.
Features
- **Two simple settings:** the fog amount at the camera (minimum) and at the edge of the render distance (maximum), each from 0 to 100%
- **See-through distance fog:** set the maximum below 100% and distant terrain stays visible through the haze
- **Custom fog color:** pick any RGB color; it still darkens naturally at night and in rain and thunder
- **No more orange sunset tint:** the fog no longer changes color when you look toward the sun at sunset
- **Server-controlled and synced:** ops change the fog for everyone at once; settings are saved per world
- **Vanilla where it matters:** water, lava, powder snow, blindness, darkness and Nether fog are left untouched
Commands
Changing settings requires operator permission (level 2). Anyone can view the current settings.
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
/fogcontrol |
Show the current settings |
/fogcontrol min <0-100> |
Fog amount right at the camera |
/fogcontrol max <0-100> |
Fog amount at the edge of the render distance |
/fogcontrol set <min> <max> |
Set both at once |
/fogcontrol reset |
Restore the defaults (min 0, max 70) |
/fogcontrol color |
Show the color settings |
/fogcontrol color toggle |
Switch the custom color on or off (also on / off) |
/fogcontrol color rgb <r> <g> <b> |
Set the color with 0-255 values |
/fogcontrol color hex <#RRGGBB> |
Set the color from a hex code |
**Examples**
/fogcontrol set 0 100: clear up close, fully opaque at the edge/fogcontrol set 50 100: thick, dense fog everywhere/fogcontrol set 30 30: an even 30% haze at every distance/fogcontrol set 0 40: a light haze toward the horizon
Settings are stored in <world>/serverconfig/fogcontrol-server.toml and can also be edited there. Changes to the file are picked up while the server is running.
Compatibility
- **Embeddium / Rubidium:** fully supported
- **Distant Horizons:** Distant Horizons' fog automatically continues from where the vanilla fog ends, with no visible seam at the render-distance edge. Your Distant Horizons config file is never changed.
- **Shader packs (Oculus):** shader packs draw their own fog and normally ignore it. Fog Control passes its values to every pack (
fogStart, fogEnd,fogColor), so a pack edited to read them will use your server's fog.
Installation
- **Server:** install the mod to control the fog
- **Clients:** install the mod to see the custom fog
- Players without the mod can still join; they simply see vanilla fog
- In singleplayer, just install it like any other mod
Requires **Minecraft 1.20.1** and **Forge 47** or newer.
