About this project

What does Pose Studio add?

Pose Studio

Pose Studio turns a Minecraft Java world into a still-photography studio. Freeze actors, arrange players and entities, edit static poses, move a detached camera, and take the final picture with Minecraft's F2 screenshot key. The scene uses your current world, resource packs, shaders, lighting, and renderer.

What you can do

  • Freeze visible players, vanilla mobs, compatible mod entities, and props when entering Studio. Configure separate limits for living actors (default 8, range 5–10) and non-living props (default 25, range 20–30).
  • Move and rotate the entire selected actor on world axes, separately from its pose. Select multiple frozen actors and undo up to ten adjustments.
  • Edit existing ModelPart nodes on supported entities. The player model adds elbows and knees with continuous bends; the normal inner and outer layers of a 64×64 skin move together. Models without accessible parts can still support whole-actor placement.
  • Place registered entities and items from the current installation into the loaded scene. Exact support for third-party model and item renderers varies.
  • Fly a camera independently of the player. Set position, pitch, yaw, roll, and FOV; use front/back/side view presets. Capture mode hides editor overlays for a clean screenshot.
  • Save and load a single static pose as JSON. The interface follows Minecraft's English or Simplified Chinese language setting.

This mod is for static posing. It has no timeline, keyframes, animation playback, IK, or video recording.

Installation and controls

Install the Forge 1.20.1 file with Java 17 and Forge 47.4.10 or a compatible 47.x version. Remove older posestudio JARs first. Single-player works directly; multiplayer requires the same mod on client and server, and the operator needs OP level 2. The current release is 0.1.12.

The default Studio, editor-panel, and capture bindings are F6, F7, and F8; all can be changed in Minecraft Controls. Use F2 for screenshots. Escape or the editor-panel binding returns from free camera or capture to editing without losing the pose. Exit Studio to restore frozen actors.

Static joint poses are local to the editing client's view; multiplayer does not synchronize custom joints to other viewers. Independent rendering systems that do not expose ModelPart may only support whole-actor controls. The camera does not load distant chunks.
