Quick answer
Which Autumn Foliage release should I use?
Autumn Foliage - 1.0.2 targets 1.20.1 with Forge. The project page does not say whether this file belongs on the client, dedicated server, or both. No extra mods listed for this file.
Where it goes
Is Autumn Foliage required on the client, server, or both?
The project page does not say whether this file belongs on the client, dedicated server, or both.
The source does not explicitly classify this release as client-only or server-only.
What else does Autumn Foliage - 1.0.2 need?
Autumn Foliage - 1.0.2. Change the file and its required mods may change too.
This file does not list any required mods. Do not add a library just because a different file uses it.
We only count dependency files that match this setup. A file for another loader does not fill the gap.

About this project
What does Autumn Foliage add?
Autumn Foliage is a NeoForge client-side visual mod that gives Minecraft forests a proper autumn look, including broad support for modded vegetation.
Instead of replacing individual leaf textures, the mod recolors vegetation dynamically while preserving the original textures, models, and block shapes. This allows vanilla and modded trees to keep their normal appearance while taking on reds, oranges, golds, and yellows during autumn.
The mod is designed to work with a wide range of vegetation mods without requiring separate compatibility packs for every tree type.
If using Distant Horizons, please use version 3.3.2

Regions
By default, autumn coloring applies across the entire world.
You can instead define one or more coordinate ranges where autumn should appear. Each range can have its own fade distance, allowing vegetation to smoothly transition between normal and autumn colors.
This is useful for worlds with custom climate bands, where temperate areas can be autumnal while tropical or other regions remain green.
Tropical Vegetation
Tropical and jungle vegetation can be kept green independently of the rest of the world.
This can be toggled in the config, so you can choose between:
- green tropical regions
- fully autumnal jungles
- server-controlled tropical behavior
- client-controlled tropical behavior when the server allows it
Server Support
The mod does not need to be installed on the server.
When used client-side only, each player uses their own local settings.
If Autumn Foliage is also installed on the server, the server can define shared settings such as:
- autumn regions
- fade distances
- vegetation strengths
- tropical behavior
- appearance settings
Server owners can also choose which settings clients are allowed to override.
Singleplayer worlds remain fully editable from the in-game config screen.
Distant Horizons
Autumn Foliage includes Distant Horizons compatibility so distant LOD vegetation uses the same autumn system as normal rendered chunks.
This includes:
- autumn colors at long distances
- coordinate region support
- tropical handling
- matching color families
- configuration refresh support
Distant Horizons is optional and is not required to use the mod.
Configuration
Open:
Mods → Autumn Foliage → Config
Settings are grouped into:
- General
- Colors
- Plants
- Regions
- Advanced
Most visual changes can be applied directly from the GUI without manually editing config files.
Compatibility
Autumn Foliage primarily uses Minecraft block tags and additional vegetation detection, allowing it to support many modded plants automatically.
For unusual mods or blocks, the Advanced settings provide manual include and exclude lists.
