What does this mod fix?

If you play with a lot of structure mods, you've probably seen things like this:

  • A house with half of it hanging off a cliff, nothing but air underneath;
  • A building whose other half is jammed into a hillside, with its door buried in dirt;
  • A perfectly neat "dirt platform" or straight wall around a structure that's obviously artificial;
  • Village houses floating on their own, with gaps you can crawl through underneath;
  • A small sandstone platform randomly floating on the ocean.

StructBlend fixes the ground around structures while new terrain is being generated: it fills where it needs filling, cuts where it needs cutting, and shapes the edges into natural slopes, so buildings look like they were always meant to be there.

It never changes any blocks of the building itself. It only adjusts the terrain around and beneath it.

Highly recommended to use alongside StructureOverlapless.

Features

Natural terrain transitions

  • Gaps under buildings are automatically filled with dirt and stone, and hills that get in the way are cut down;
  • A gentle slope extends about 16 blocks out from the building's edge, or about 24 blocks for buildings with wide foundations;
  • Slopes have subtle, natural variation, not a rigid cone or flat-topped mound;
  • The ground lines up with the building's floor, so there's no "one-block trench" left around the outside.

Clearing buried spaces

If a hillside buries a building's interior or entrance, the excess terrain is carved away so you can get in and out normally.

Structures on shores and in water

  • Buildings in shallow water or on the shoreline get support built underneath, so they no longer look like they're standing on stilts;
  • Desert pyramids that end up in water get a proper base;
  • Boats, driftwood and other things meant to float on water are left as they are, instead of being turned into little islands;
  • Small, isolated sandstone platforms that would float on the ocean are skipped and no longer generate.

Special handling for villages

Village houses sit at different heights, so villages aren't flattened as a whole like regular structures. Instead, each house gets its own foundation:

  • Fill only, never cut, so hillside villages aren't leveled flat;
  • Roads, bridges and other parts that are meant to be elevated stay as they are;
  • Shoreline houses get the single layer of water under them filled in, but no artificial islands are created in deep water.

Generation-tested with the following village mods: Towns and Towers, Repurposed Structures, ChoiceTheorem's Overhauled Village (CTOV), Better Villages, Villages&Pillages, Sky Villages, Aether Villages, Underground Villages, Tidal Towns, Improved Village Placement.

Performance

The mod does the terrain calculations it needs when new chunks generate. This work has been specifically optimized and tested, keeping the overhead low enough to be negligible!

Configuration

The config file is located at config/structblend-common.toml:

# List of structure IDs that this mod should not process
excludedStructures = ["minecraft:pillager_outpost", "examplemod:example_tower"]

If a structure looks worse after processing, just add its ID to the list.
