About this project

What does Explorer's Journals add?

Explorer's Journal

Explore the world. Record your discoveries. Complete your journey.

Explorer's Journal is a universal exploration journal for Minecraft, designed to work with both vanilla worlds and heavily modded environments.

The journal automatically detects content registered by Minecraft and NeoForge, allowing it to document discoveries from the entire modpack without requiring individual integrations for specific mods.

📖 Your Exploration Journal

The Explorer's Journal is a physical book that contains everything you need to keep track of your exploration.

Open the book to access:

  • Diary — Keep a record of your discoveries and adventures.
  • Encyclopedia — Browse everything you have discovered.
  • Atlas — Track explored locations and points of interest.
  • Statistics — View your exploration progress and completion.
  • Search — Quickly find specific entries.
  • Filters — Organize discoveries by category and discovery status.

🌎 Universal Modpack Support

Explorer's Journal does not rely on hardcoded compatibility with individual mods.

Instead, it uses Minecraft and NeoForge's registries and game systems to dynamically detect available content.

This allows it to work with content added by different mods without requiring a dedicated integration for each one.

The journal can track:

  • Mobs and other entities
  • Biomes
  • Ores and resources
  • Dimensions
  • Medium and large structures
  • Other registered exploration content

When new mods are added to a modpack, their registered content can be detected automatically by the journal.

🔎 Discover as You Explore

Your journal is progressively filled as you explore the world.

Discoveries are made naturally through gameplay:

  • Encounter a new mob
  • Enter a new biome
  • Discover an ore or resource
  • Visit a new dimension
  • Find an important structure
  • Explore new areas of the world

Instead of giving you a complete encyclopedia from the beginning, the journal becomes a record of your own journey.

📊 Exploration Progress

Every discovery contributes to your overall exploration progress.

Track how much of the available world content you have discovered and work towards completing your journal.

The goal is simple:

Discover everything. Complete your journal.

🌐 Multiplayer

Explorer's Journal is designed for multiplayer environments.

Discovery progress is stored individually for each player, meaning every player can maintain their own journal and exploration history.

The server remains authoritative over discovery data while the client handles the journal interface and presentation.

⚙️ Performance

Explorer's Journal is designed with large modpacks in mind.

The mod avoids constantly scanning the entire world for discoveries.

Instead, it uses registries, events and targeted detection whenever possible, reducing unnecessary background processing while still keeping the journal up to date.

🧭 Designed for Exploration

Explorer's Journal is intended to make exploration itself feel meaningful.

Every new biome, creature, resource, dimension and structure becomes part of your personal record of the world.

Whether you're playing vanilla Minecraft or a modpack containing hundreds of mods, your journal grows with the world around you.

Compatibility

Minecraft: 1.21.1
