About this project
What does Mobcraft - Catch! add?
Weaken a mob, throw a Mob Catcher at it, and if you're lucky it's yours. Wolves, foxes, iron golems, blazes, ravagers — and mobs from other mods too. Mobcraft doesn't replace their AI. A modded dragon still fights like that mod's dragon. It just fights for you now.
Catching
There are 12 catcher tiers, from a basic one you can make on day one all the way up to Netherite. Aim an empty catcher at a mob and you'll see its level, health and your odds before you throw. Low health, slowness and sleeping mobs are all easier to catch. Bosses are off by default (server owners can change that).
Your partners
Right-click a filled catcher to send your partner out, and again to call it back. They keep their name, gear and anything special about them. They level up from fighting and working, and they don't die for good. A partner that goes down gets Injured and goes back into its catcher until you heal it.
Grab a Command Tablet to tell them what to do: follow you, stand still, guard an area, hunt or go on a rampage. Skittish mobs like foxes, cats and rabbits stop running away from you once they're yours.
Put them to work
Give your partners jobs and they actually do them: mining (with tunnels), chopping trees, farming and replanting, smelting, cooking, crafting, breeding, gathering fuel, even building from blueprints. Everything ends up in your chests. They'll ask before placing a furnace or crafting table, and they respect land-claim mods.
Pin jobs on a Mob Assignment Board and idle partners will pick them up on their own.
Trainers and battles
You're not the only one out there catching mobs. Trainers from six factions wander the world with their own teams. They set up camps and slowly build them into proper bases. Hold a Battle Token and challenge one to a 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 for emeralds, catchers, badges and reputation. Champions won't even look at you until you've earned enough badges.
Watch out for Grunts
The Grunts are a gang that wants your partners. Infantry, Sergeants, Captains and Commanders show up in squads, try to snatch your partners mid-fight, and the higher ranks will pick filled catchers right out of your bag. Beat the thief (or catch it — that works too) and you get everything it stole back. The more of them you take down, the bigger the bosses they send after you.
Things to find
There are 12 new structures to explore:
- Mob Stations with a doctor who'll heal your team
- trainer camps and villages
- champion arenas
- abandoned labs
- sanctuaries
- catcher temples
- Grunt hideouts
- a fortress in the Nether
- a citadel out in the End
Base blocks
- Mob Healer: patches up injured partners.
- Capture Workbench: repairs and upgrades catchers without losing what's inside.
- Research Table and Mob Analyzer: give bonuses for studying a species.
- Trainer Terminal: shows your whole roster and your reputation.
- Mob Storage Crate
- Battle Arena block
For server owners and modpack makers
Almost everything is configurable: capture rates, partner limits, PvP, hardcore permadeath, Grunt spawns, structure frequency and more. Modpack makers can tune any mob (rarity, boss status, what jobs it can do) with simple JSON files, and there's an API for mod authors.
