About this project

What does Puzzles add?

Puzzles

Data-driven puzzle blocks for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge).

Features

  • Puzzle Block — locks onto a puzzle, outputs items, checks answers, gives rewards
  • Puzzle Desk — creates Puzzle Paper from regular paper + a selected puzzle
  • Datapack-driven — add/modify puzzles by editing JSON files, no recompilation
  • In-game GUI — open the puzzle folder directly and refresh without /reload
  • Two modes — one-shot (single play) or locked (auto-repeat)
  • Automation-friendly — compatible with hoppers and pipes via NeoForge ItemHandler

How to Play

  1. Craft a Puzzle Block and a Puzzle Desk
  2. Put paper into the Puzzle Desk, pick a puzzle, click Load
  3. Insert the Puzzle Paper into the Puzzle Block
  4. Follow the output/input cycle to solve the puzzle

Adding Custom Puzzles

Puzzles are defined as JSON files. Place them in:

<world>/datapacks/puzzles/data/puzzles/puzzle_type/

Click the "Puzzle" button in the Puzzle Desk GUI to open the folder directly. Then run /reload in-game to load new puzzles.

Included Puzzles

  • Stone Trial — smelt stones into their smooth variants
  • Compression Trial — compress 9 ores into a block

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • NeoForge 21.1.252 or newer
