Quick answer

Which Elapsed release should I use?

Updated today
Latest stable file Elapsed 1.0.0 (Fabric 1.20.1)
Game version 1.20.1
Loader Fabric

Elapsed 1.0.0 (Fabric 1.20.1) targets 1.20.1 with Fabric. The project page does not say whether this file belongs on the client, dedicated server, or both. All 1 required mods have matching files.

Where it goes

Is Elapsed required on the client, server, or both?

The project page does not say whether this file belongs on the client, dedicated server, or both.

The source does not explicitly classify this release as client-only or server-only.

What else does Elapsed 1.0.0 (Fabric 1.20.1) need?

Elapsed 1.0.0 (Fabric 1.20.1). Change the file and its required mods may change too.

All 1 required mods have matching files

Install Fabric API first. We found matching files for this game-version and loader setup.

We only count dependency files that match this setup. A file for another loader does not fill the gap.

Before you install it

Add Elapsed without breaking your instance.

  1. 01

    Stick to this file

Use Elapsed 1.0.0 (Fabric 1.20.1). It targets 1.20.1 with Fabric; another release may have different loader, side or dependency requirements.

  2. 02

    Bring the mods it needs

Install Fabric API first. We found matching files for this game-version and loader setup.

  3. 03

Put it on the correct side

The project page does not say whether this file belongs on the client, dedicated server, or both.

  4. 04

    Pick the file you checked

Use the “Get this file” button beside Elapsed 1.0.0 (Fabric 1.20.1). It opens that exact file at the source.

About this project

What does Elapsed add?

Elapsed

Your base keeps working while you're away. Come back to grown crops, smelted ores and grown-up animals.

In vanilla, the moment you walk far enough away, your base freezes: furnaces stop smelting, crops stop growing, baby animals stop growing up. Go mining for an hour and you come home to exactly what you left.

Elapsed fixes that. When you come back, your farms, furnaces and animals catch up on the time you were gone, as if you had never left. By default that is the time the world was running; it can also count the time the game or server was closed. It doesn't keep chunks loaded and doesn't simulate anything while you're away, so it costs nothing in the meantime: when a chunk loads again, Elapsed works out once what would have happened and applies the result.

Works in singleplayer, on LAN and on servers. On a server it is server-side only: players join with an unmodified client and don't need to install anything.

Available for Minecraft 26.2, 26.3, 1.21.1 and 1.20.1 on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge.

What catches up

  • Furnaces, smokers and blast furnaces: fuel burns and items smelt, stopping when the fuel or input runs out or the output slot is full, exactly when the real furnace would have. The experience is stored in the furnace as usual.
  • Brewing stands: brews finish, using up blaze powder and ingredients.
  • Campfires: food finishes cooking and pops off, once.
  • Crops and plants: wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroot, torchflowers, melon and pumpkin stems (and their fruit), nether wart, cocoa, sweet berries, sugar cane, cactus (and its flower, on 26.x), bamboo, kelp, and weeping, twisting and cave vines. Growth follows the game's own growth chances, and only happens where the plant could grow right now (enough light, the right ground, room above).
  • Saplings: move on to their second stage; the tree itself is grown by the game as usual.
  • Copper: oxidises, following the game's rule that nearby younger copper slows it down. Waxed copper never changes.
  • Animals: babies grow up, breeding cooldowns and love mode run out. Nothing is ever bred, and animals never move or fight because of Elapsed.
  • Chickens: the egg timer keeps running, and missed eggs are laid (a handful at most).

Never: redstone, hoppers, fluids, mob AI, villagers, tree generation or chunk loading.

Settings

Everything is in config/elapsed.toml:

  • a master switch, and a switch per system
  • the longest time anything catches up on, overall and per system (24 hours of play by default)
  • optionally count the time the server itself was switched off
  • which dimensions catch up
  • how much catch-up work is done per tick, so a player teleporting into a large old base doesn't freeze the server

Operators can use /elapsed status, /elapsed chunk, /elapsed reload and /elapsed debug.

Safety

  • The time is saved together with the chunk's contents, so the two can never disagree, even after a crash or a rollback.
  • Each stretch of time is caught up exactly once. Reloading a chunk over and over does not repeat anything.
  • /time set and /time add don't count as time passing.

Compatibility

  • Fabric: requires Fabric API.
  • NeoForge: no other mods needed.
  • Forge: no other mods needed.
  • Seasonfall: crops unloaded through several seasons grow by the seasons they actually spent unloaded.
  • Other mods can add their own systems through Elapsed's API.
