About this project
What does Flowing Rain add?
Flowing Rain
Rain that really fills the world.
Flowing Rain is an add-on for Flowing Fluids.
It turns Minecraft rain into real, finite water. Rain soaks into soil, collects in hollows, fills basins and raises ponds. When the weather clears, exposed water slowly evaporates again.
Features
- Real rainwater. While it rains, small amounts of water appear on loaded ground near players. No water falls indoors, in deserts, or where it snows.
- Ground matters. Dirt and sand soak up rain. Stone and planks let it pool. You can change this with block tags.
- Hollows fill up. Low ground collects runoff from nearby slopes. Rain on existing water first flows to a lower outlet or joins a thin stream. Only basins with no outlet rise, up to a set depth.
- Weather with character. Light rain, rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms add different amounts. Local downpours drift across the land.
- Evaporation. On bright, clear days, open water slowly shrinks. Cold places and Flowing Fluids' infinite-refill biomes are skipped.
- World-safe. Rainfall never replaces waterloggable blocks or plants. It never loads or generates chunks.
- No double rain. Flowing Fluids has its own rain refill and evaporation. Rainfall pauses those two where it is active, and gives them back where it is off. Your Flowing Fluids config is never changed.
Rainfall adds no blocks, items or network packets.
See Rainfall Transform the World
Rainfall doesn't just make rain look different. Rain becomes real, finite water and gradually changes the landscape.
Before the Rain
The same landscape before rainfall begins.

Rain Begins
Rain starts adding real water to the terrain. Small pools begin to appear in low areas.

Water Gathering
Runoff collects in hollows and existing low ground.

Basins Filling
As the rain continues, disconnected pools grow and basins begin to fill.

After Heavy Rain
After sustained heavy rain, the same landscape contains dramatically more water.

Water movement and leveling are handled by Flowing Fluids, while Rainfall decides where rainwater is added and when exposed water evaporates.
Requirements
- Flowing Fluids 1.0.6 or newer, for the same Minecraft version and loader.
Supported versions
Each Rainfall file is made for one Minecraft version. Pick the file that matches your game version and loader.
Commands
You need operator permission, or use the server console.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/rainfall status |
Shows on/off, total water added and evaporated, and active downpours |
/rainfall probe |
Shows the ground, rain, absorption and runoff at your position |
/rainfall reload |
Reloads config/rainfall.json |
/rainfall enabled true/false |
Turns Rainfall on or off and saves it |
/rainfall evaporation true/false |
Turns evaporation on or off and saves it |
/rainfall preset gentle |
Lighter, less frequent rain |
/rainfall preset steady |
Default settings |
/rainfall preset downpour |
Heavy rain, so water rises quickly |
Configuration
Rainfall creates config/rainfall.json on first launch. Water uses Flowing Fluids units. One block of water is 8 units.
| Setting | Keys |
|---|---|
| Rain | intervalTicks, attemptsPerChunk, generationChance, waterAmount, chunkRadius, maxChunksPerInterval |
| Evaporation | evaporationIntervalTicks, evaporationAttemptsPerChunk, evaporationChance, evaporationAmount |
| Depth limit | maxWaterStackHeight (deep natural lakes count too) |
| Off in these dimensions | excludedDimensions |
| Preset | Every | Tries per chunk | Chance | Base amount |
|---|---|---|---|---|
steady (default) |
20 ticks (1 second) | 16 | 40% | 4 units |
downpour |
10 ticks | 24 | 65% | 6 units |
The real amount also depends on rain strength, ground absorption, runoff and free space.
If you kept an older config, run /rainfall preset steady to switch to the current defaults.
Data packs
These block tags control how much rain a block soaks up.
| Tag | Effect |
|---|---|
rainfall:absorption_high |
Soaks up a lot, like dirt and sand |
rainfall:absorption_low |
Soaks up a little |
rainfall:absorption_impervious |
Soaks up nothing, so water pools, like stone and planks |
Good to know
- Evaporation affects any finite water that meets the conditions, not only rainwater. Open ponds and reservoirs will slowly shrink in clear weather. Use
/rainfall evaporation falseto stop it. - If you turn off Flowing Fluids' water simulation, Rainfall stops adding and evaporating water too.
- Water on a surface only looks for outlets in the 4 loaded neighbors, up to 4 blocks down. It never moves through walls or into unloaded chunks.
Feedback
Ideas, feature requests and comments are always welcome. If you find a bug, please let me know in the comments. It helps a lot if you include your Minecraft version, loader, and the versions of Rainfall and Flowing Fluids.

Rainfall(日本語)
Flowing Fluids

Rainfall
|---|---|
/rainfall status |
/rainfall probe |

初めて起動したときにconfig/rainfall.jsonが作られます。
|---|---|
| 雨 | intervalTicks、attemptsPerChunk、generationChance、waterAmount、chunkRadius、maxChunksPerInterval |
| 蒸発 | evaporationIntervalTicks、evaporationAttemptsPerChunk、evaporationChance、evaporationAmount |
| 水深の上限 | maxWaterStackHeight(自然の深い湖も数に入ります) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
steady(標準) |
downpour |
|---|---|
rainfall:absorption_high |
rainfall:absorption_low |
rainfall:absorption_impervious |
