About this project

What does Blowgun add?

Darts & Blowguns

Three blowguns. 73 darts. 36 absurd darts.
Darts stick visibly in every mob, smart mobs yank them back out, and barbed darts they can't.

What is darts & blowguns?

This is a blowgun mod. Raise a bamboo tube, puff, and a dart flies flat and fast with a little fwip. Every dart stays stuck exactly where it hit, on any mob, vanilla or modded, and moves with the arm, leg or head it went into.

There are 73 darts in six families: poisons and sleep darts, mind tricks, body pranks, elemental effects, physics darts and trick-shot traps. Then there are the 36 absurd darts: a house that grows legs and becomes your pet, a 250,000-block planet that orbits your target, a giant sword of light called down from a rune in the night sky, real portals hidden in zippers and cartoon doors, and many more.

Everything is hand-made: every texture is drawn pixel by pixel and every model is built by hand. Nearly every number is a setting in the in-game config screen.

The blowguns

Blowgun How to get it Speed Cooldown Notes
Bamboo Blowgun 3 bamboo in a vertical line 3.0 1 s The standard blowgun
Reed Blowgun 2 sugar cane + 1 bamboo 2.4 0.6 s Fast to fire, shorter reach, -0.5 damage
Elder Blowgun Master Fletchers (24 emeralds), jungle temples 3.6 0.8 s Carved jungle wood, +0.5 damage
  • Instant shots: right-click fires with no draw time.
  • Long Breath: hold right-click for a second while a breath meter fills, for a faster, harder shot.
  • Underwater: blowguns work underwater, at a cost of one air bubble a shot.
  • Enchantments: two new ones, Deep Breath (faster, harder darts) and Quick Breath (shorter cooldown), plus Unbreaking and Mending.
  • Dispensers: they fire darts too.

Darts you can see

  • Every dart that hits stays stuck, at the exact spot and angle it hit, on players and on every mob, modded ones included (GeckoLib models too). There is no limit to how many a mob can carry.
  • Stuck darts move with the body part they hit, and grow and shrink with a mob that changes size.
  • They fall out after a minute, drop when the mob dies, and darts in blocks can be picked back up.
  • Every lasting effect is a real status effect with its own hand-drawn icon, so milk and effect mods work with it.

Smart mobs pull them out

Villagers, pillagers, vindicators, evokers, illusioners and the Warden notice darts stuck in them, reach for them and yank them out, each in its own way. While pulling they can't fight, and a pulled dart's effect is weakened.

  • A villager panics first, then pulls with a worried "hrmm".
  • A vindicator snarls and throws the dart down hard.
  • An evoker lets one of its Vexes do it.
  • An illusioner's copies all mime the pull.
  • The Warden tears every dart out with a claw swipe the moment it lands.
  • Clerics walk over and pull darts out of hurt villagers and iron golems.

Pack makers can add any mob to the fwip:pulls_darts tag.

Barbed darts

Any dart can be barbed: craft 4 darts with an iron nugget, or file a whole stack at once with a Barbing Kit. A smart mob grabs the barbed dart, tugs twice, fails, and hurts itself, and the effect runs its full length. There's an advancement for it: Nice Try.

The Dart Pouch

The pouch holds 8 stacks of darts. Press Next Dart (B) to pick which one fires; the chosen dart shows in its own slot beside the hotbar. With Curios (NeoForge) or Trinkets Updated (Fabric) installed, wear the pouch on your belt. Darts come from crafting, Fletcher villagers, the Wandering Trader and loot chests.

Burrowing Dart Digs into soft ground and waits there.
Pocket Dart Sucks a small mob into the dart to carry around.

The absurd darts

These are the heart of Fwip. Each one gets 4 darts per craft. Servers that want a serious game can switch the whole group off, or any single dart.

Personal Planet Dart

The ground around your target starts to lift, block by block. 250,000 real blocks are taken one for one from the world and condensed into a miniature planet at 1/80 scale, which slowly orbits the mob you hit. Right-click it to go aboard: you shrink to its size and can walk, dig, build, jump and glide with an elytra around it, under its own clouds and weather. At its heart, in an empty hollow, floats a demon core. Mine it and the planet ends. Kill the target and the planet orbits its killer. After five minutes every block flies home, bottom up, and the land is exactly as it was.

The Sword of Light

The Sword Constellation Dart works at night. Each mob you hit rises into the sky as a star. When the shape is complete, the constellation flows into a vast golden rune as its letters spiral out into place, and a seam of light tears open in its heart with only the tip of a colossal blade showing.

Your hand rises. Aim at any block you can see, click, and your hand trembles with power, then swings down. The sword falls out of the light, the screen shakes, the ground flashes white-gold, and whatever it hits dies. It stands in the earth, lighting up the night, before it dissolves into light.

Constellation Darts

At night, hit mobs become stars, pinned in the sky and joined by glowing lines. Complete a shape and it answers:

  • Bow: a giant arrow falls where you aim.
  • Hound: a starry wolf companion for the night.
  • Frog: a Star Frog mount that leaps 30 blocks.
  • Crown: Hero of the Village, and fireworks over every village bell around.
  • Lily: a glowing lily-pad bridge.
  • Sword: rare. See above.

The plain Constellation Dart picks a shape at random. Each shape also has its own dart that builds only that shape. You choose how leftover stars end: as meteors, harmless meteors, stars that stay forever, or a fade.

Possessed Building Dart

Shoot a house and up to 512 of its blocks grow four wooden legs: your house is now your pet. It follows you, sits when told (it settles back into real blocks so you can live in it), bites enemies with its front door and stomps monsters flat.

It grows a pirate-ship steering wheel; right-click the wheel to drive it:

  • WASD to walk, double-tap W to sprint.
  • Hold space for a charged leap.
  • Hold Left Ctrl to suck enemies in through the front door, where they are chained up, and press R to spit them out.

Its doors, chests, furnaces and torches all keep working while it walks. Break a wheel to pick it up and place it anywhere on the house.

World-Seam Dart and Wrong Door Dart

Two darts into any surface draw a zipper. Unzip it, and the opening is a real, seamless portal with a live view to somewhere far away: a cave, a distant land, the Nether, the End. Walk straight through.

The Wrong Door makes its target look around in a cartoon panic, spot a painted door, sprint to it, fling it open and go through to somewhere ridiculous and far away. The door stays open for anyone to follow. Both use a full port of the Immersive Portals engine (credited below).

Perspective Dart

Grab a mob with forced perspective. It floats along your crosshair at the same size on screen, so pushing it back against a far wall makes it a giant and pulling it close makes it tiny. Scroll to push it further. It goes from too small to see up to 2048 blocks tall, and a resized mob can be grabbed again at any time.

And 23 more

Runaway Soul Its soul pops out and drifts away, and its body has to chase it. Hit the soul to steer the chase.
Dungeon Belly Walk into a big mob's mouth and fight through a dungeon inside it: stomach, ribcage, heart or gizzard.
Food Chain It swallows smaller creatures, grows bigger, and lets them all out alive when it dies.
Animation Theft Steals a mob's special move (a creeper's explosion, an enderman's teleport) and gives it to another mob.
Boss Audition Any mob becomes a named mini-boss with a boss bar and powers that suit its biome. It drops a trophy.
Inventory Ecosystem A small critter lives in your inventory, hops between slots, and eats what it lands next to. Keep the creeper away from your TNT.
Mime It mimes invisible stairs, walls and chairs, and they become real.
Ground Is Lava It refuses to touch the ground and builds stepping stones in a panic.
Loot Goblin A dropped item grows legs, runs off with other items, and pays out emeralds when caught.
Knockback Bank Hits are deposited at a bank counter. Press Withdraw and it all comes out at once.
Train It becomes a locomotive, and every mob it touches couples on behind.
Health Bar Its health bar falls out and it runs off with it. Snap the bar to finish it.
Weather Organ Tickle the little cloud above it and it sneezes thunder, blizzards or a tornado.
Stage Fright Spotlights and a ghostly audience. It gets cheered or booed, and pelted with tomatoes.
Fishing Reality Reel in mobs, chunks of land, a cloud you can stand on, or something strange from the moon's reflection.
Domino It stands rigid, and one push topples a whole chain.
Unfinished Business Its ghost asks you a favour for double loot.
Rubber World The ground turns to rubber: bounce on it, or pull it back and launch everything like a slingshot.
Camera It's trapped in a photograph you can rotate and hang on your wall.
Evolution Argument It evolves to counter what you do: armour, legs, wings, gills. Trick it into bad ones.
Moonwalk It walks on the spot, and the ground moves under it instead.
Sound Tax Its sounds become objects: bouncy footsteps, spiky screams, notes you can bottle.
Fight Cloud A fight becomes a cartoon dust cloud with fists and feet sticking out.
Second Phase A dying mob refuses to die and returns as a boss, with its own title card and music. The more harmless it was, the bigger it comes back.

Configure everything

  • The config screen: Fwip has its own in-game config screen, opened from Mod Menu or the mods list. It has search, a page per dart and per system, a default and a reset button on every setting, and full mouse and keyboard control.
  • What you can change: durations, ranges, damage, speeds, sizes and chances, and switches for the different things each dart does.
  • Server and client settings: operators edit server settings in game and they sync to everyone; client settings stay per player.
  • Accessibility: options to reduce camera motion and flashing, set the vignette strength, and turn on extra descriptive subtitles for every sound.

Plays well with others

  • Shaders and performance: tested with Iris and Sodium (the Complementary and Bliss shader packs), Lithium, FerriteCore, EntityCulling and ImmediatelyFast.
  • Modded mobs: they get stuck darts too, GeckoLib mobs included (tested with Naturalist).
  • Claims and protection: anything that changes blocks asks the loader as the shooter, so claim mods (tested with Open Parties and Claims) can block it. Spawn protection, adventure mode and mobGriefing are respected.
  • Recipes and tooltips: JEI and REI show every recipe. Jade shows a mob's stuck darts and dart effects.
  • Belt slots: Curios (NeoForge) and Trinkets Updated (Fabric).
  • Dynamic lights: LambDynamicLights.
  • Packs: resource packs can replace every texture, model and sound. Data packs can change the tags, enchantments, loot and trades.

Safe for your world

Every temporary change to the world, like a planet's crater, an open zipper or a moonwalked field, is recorded in a crash-safe ledger. If the game crashes or stops mid-effect, the land is restored exactly the next time the area loads.
