About this project

What does Souls-like Leveling add?

Souls-like Leveling

Every kill makes you stronger, and every death puts it all at risk.

Souls-like Leveling brings the Dark Souls loop to Minecraft. Slay mobs to collect Souls, spend them at a Bonfire to level up your stats, and if you fall, race back to where you died before your souls are gone forever.

⚔️ Souls & Levelling

  • Every kill gives you Souls. Tougher mobs are worth far more: a Zombie gives 56, an Enderman 144, a Ravager 600, and a Warden 11,000. Bosses like the Ender Dragon and Wither give a huge ×10 bonus.
  • Five stats to build your character:
Stat Per point
❤️ Vigor +½ heart of max health
🗡️ Strength +0.25 attack damage
⚡ Dexterity +3% attack speed
🛡️ Endurance +0.5 armor
🏃 Agility +1% movement speed
  • Level costs climb steeply, just like in Souls games. Every level is earned, and you won't be one-punching zombies in your first week.
  • Plan before you spend. Queue up points, see exactly what each one gives you, then Confirm or Cancel.
  • Press K anywhere to check your stats.
  • Clean health bar: no matter how much Vigor you have, your hearts stay in one row. Every 20 HP above the first 20 is a new colour layered on top (red, orange, yellow, green...), so the HUD never stacks up.

👻 Soul Items

Souls you can carry. Seven kinds, and the more souls one holds, the rarer it is:

Item Souls
Faint Soul 100
Lost Soul 200
Wandering Soul 400
Soldier's Soul 800
Knight's Soul 1,000
Champion's Soul 1,200
Hero's Soul 2,400

Hostile mobs sometimes drop them (tougher mobs more often), bosses always drop a Hero's Soul, and they're hidden in structure chests, with the best ones in strongholds, ancient cities and end cities. Right-click to absorb (sneak to absorb the whole stack), or keep them in a chest as savings. Just don't die carrying them.

💀 Death Has a Price

When you die, the souls you're carrying are left where you fell, marked by drifting soul-fire. Walk back to reclaim them. Die again on the way and they're lost for good.

Your stat levels are never lost, only the souls you hadn't spent.

🔥 Bonfires

Craft a Bonfire, kindle it, and make it a place of rest.

 . S . S = Iron Sword
 . C . C = Crying Obsidian
 M M M M = Magma Block
  • Name it. The first player to light a bonfire gives it a name, and everyone on the server sees that name.
  • Rest. Fully heal, cure poison and other bad effects, and set your respawn point. You can't rest with enemies nearby, so clear the area first.
  • Warm up. Standing beside a lit bonfire slowly regenerates your health.
  • The Bonfire menu (works with mouse or keyboard):
    • Level Up: spend your souls
    • Travel: warp to any bonfire you've lit, even across dimensions
    • Bottomless Box: open your Ender Chest storage
  • Destroyed bonfires are announced in chat to everyone who had lit them, including players who were offline at the time.

🏘️ A Bonfire in Every Village

Every village now has a small bonfire plaza near its centre: a stone hearth, benches around the fire and lantern posts on the corners. It's built in the village's own style (sandstone in the desert, spruce in the taiga and so on). It starts unlit, waiting for a traveller to kindle it.

This works in existing worlds too: villages get their bonfire the next time you visit.

❤️‍🔥 Enemy scaling and elites

Enemy scaling: hostile mobs get stronger the further you travel from world spawn, the more days pass, and in the Nether (×1.25) and the End (×1.5). Each mob rolls a difficulty multiplier when it spawns, capped at ×4. The multiplier raises its health, damage (melee and ranged), armor and knockback resistance. Stronger mobs give more souls, so the risk pays off without making levelling too fast. Bosses are never scaled. Use /souls scaling to see the multiplier where you stand.

Elites: rare, named group leaders such as Zombie Warlord or Undying Skeleton. They start appearing on day 3.

  • Its own strength: ×3 health, ×1.5 damage and extra armor. It's slightly bigger than other mobs and trails coloured particles.
  • The group: it spawns with 2–4 followers. Every hostile mob near it gets Strength and Resistance, and nearby mobs attack whoever the elite is fighting.
  • Traits: each elite has one:
    • Warlord: hits harder.
    • Stalker: faster.
    • Bulwark: heavily armoured.
    • Undying: regenerates health.
    • Warcaller: bigger aura and stronger buffs.
  • When it falls: its followers lose their buffs and are weakened and slowed for a few seconds.
  • Rewards: ×5 souls and a guaranteed rare soul item.

⚙️ Fully Configurable

Almost everything can be tuned in config/soulslike-local.toml or in game through Mods → Souls-like Leveling → Config, including:

  • Soul rewards, boss bonus, how much tougher mobs are worth, and how often soul items drop
  • Level costs and the max level per stat
  • Whether you drop souls on death
  • Whether you can level up anywhere or only at bonfires
  • Bonfire healing, regeneration range, respawn, travel, cross-dimension travel, the Bottomless Box and village bonfires

📋 Requirements

  • Minecraft 26.3
  • NeoForge 26.3.0.48-beta or newer
  • Install on both client and server.

🛠️ Commands (operators)

  • /souls add <amount> / /souls set <amount>: give or set souls
  • /souls reset: reset souls and stats
  • /souls bonfires clear: forget all lit bonfires
