About this project

What does Monster Capture add?

Monster Capture

Monster Capture lets you capture weakened monsters and turn them into permanent allies.

Reduce a monster's health to the capture threshold, use the Dark Orb, and manage your captured monsters through the Capture List.

Features

  • Capture monsters at 10% health or lower.
  • A 1 HP fallback allows capture for entities whose maximum health makes the normal threshold too low.
  • Captured monsters are physically stored in a dedicated storage dimension.
  • Summon captured monsters back into the world whenever you need them.
  • Recall summoned monsters back into storage instead of losing them.
  • Manage up to 100 captured monsters.
  • Captured monsters retain their individual entity state and custom names.
  • Rename captured monsters through the Capture List.
  • Captured allies can automatically detect and fight nearby hostile enemies.
  • Captured allies recognize and protect their owner and other allied captured monsters.
  • Kills made by captured allies are attributed to their owner.
  • Captured monsters gradually recover health while stored.

Items

Dark Orb

The Dark Orb is used to capture weakened monsters.

Dark Shard

Dark Shards are used to craft Dark Orbs and can be found at a low chance in Ancient City loot.

Recommended Mods

Shaders

Using a shader pack is recommended for the best visual experience. Captured allies have a special dark blue, teal, and cyan visual effect that can stand out more clearly with shaders enabled.

L_Ender's Cataclysm & Alex's Caves

L_Ender's Cataclysm and Alex's Caves both pair well visually with Monster Capture's captured allies.

These mods are recommendations only and are not required to use Monster Capture.

Known Limitations

Monster Capture has been tested with a variety of vanilla and modded creatures, but compatibility may vary depending on how individual entities are implemented.

  • Some multipart entities may not capture correctly.
  • Entities such as the Ender Dragon may not capture correctly.
  • Certain modded creatures with multipart or unusual entity structures may experience capture, storage, summoning, or AI-related issues.
  • Some large or complex modded creatures may cause unexpected behavior, including capture failures or other compatibility issues.

These issues may vary between different mods and individual entities.

Compatibility

Minecraft: 1.20.1
Mod Loader: Forge
Forge Version: 47.4.10

JEI is optional and can be used to view crafting recipes.

Notes

Monster Capture uses a physical storage-dimension system rather than simple item-based NBT storage. Captured monsters remain as real entities inside the mod's dedicated storage dimension until they are summoned, recalled, or deleted.
