About this project
What does Northeast China Delight add?

Growing
Northeast China Delight adds a set of cold-hardy crops that grow on the snowy plains and taiga edges where the mod's courtyards spawn. Most can be planted on farmland like vanilla crops; a few have their own habits — corn grows tall and can be braided into drying strings, napa cabbage needs decent soil, and sweet potatoes spread if you let them.
Wild ginseng occasionally appears buried in snowy or forested dirt — dig it up bare-handed, it won't drop with a hoe. Hazel mushrooms grow on birch logs; strip the bark and you can peel them off. Wood ears work the same way on spruce. Frozen pears hide in snow drifts — break the snow to find them.
Cooking
Two cooking stations matter:
- The stove: place food on Farmer's Delight stoves or the cooking pot; dishes cook through into finished meals. Some dishes can be served — sneak + right-click to place a dish as a food block on a table.
- The grill campfire: a metal rack laid over a campfire. Skewers roast on it; apply seasoning with a brush, and the smoke colors the food as it cooks.
Dishes you cook fall into three flavors: greasy, refreshing, or balanced. Greasy meals restore more hunger and give strength for the cold; refreshing meals cut through grease and add lightness; balanced dishes grant nourishment on par with Farmer's Delight stews. A plain bowl of rice pairs with anything and tops it off.
Fermenting
The vat is the heart of the mod. Place one, pour in water, then drop ingredients in — the vat itself tracks what's inside, so there's no recipe book to memorize.
- Fill — water bucket for water, sour water bottle for starter.
- Season — salt, chili sauce, fish sauce, shrimp paste; the surface whitens when there's enough salt.
- Seal — a press stone for pickles and cured meat, a wool carpet for pastes and sauces, a canvas rug for vinegar and kvass.
- Wait — sneak-right-click takes the seal back; an empty-hand right-click shows progress in the action bar.
The same vat pickles vegetables, ferments soy paste into soy sauce, ages vinegar, cures salted fish and bacon, brews kvass, sprouts beans, and softens frozen pears — one recipe at a time, chosen by what you fed it.
Once finished, right-click with a bowl (paste) or glass bottle (sauces, vinegars, sour water, kvass) to draw the product out. Old seasoning bottles can be refilled straight from the vat — they keep a portion of each dose so you don't waste the bottle.
World
Northeast courtyards generate on cold plains and forest edges. Besides, you can find a small general store in villiges to trade wild goods for emeralds.
Cellars appear under some houses. Climb down and you'll find stored winter vegetables and pickles — the cold is the whole point.
