About this project

What does Hamster Robots add?

🐹 Hamster Robots

Hims! Hamster Robots fills your Minecraft 1.20.1 world with adorable hamsters, then hands you the keys to giant rideable hamster mechs, hamster tanks and hamster helicopters. Then it throws a Titan Zombie and a crowned King Zombie at you. Grab mobs with your robot, rocket them into the sky with a jetpack, or sacrifice your Speaker Hims Robot in one last huge yellow blast. Cute and chaotic, all in one!

✨ Features

  • Colourful hamsters: gray, golden, white, black and cinnamon. They spawn in plains, sunflower plains, meadows, forests and savannas. Gray is the most common.
  • Breeding: hamsters love seeds (wheat, melon, pumpkin, beetroot, torchflower and other seeds). Babies usually take a parent's fur colour, with a 10% chance of a surprise colour.
  • Two rideable robots: the Hamster Robot and the red Speaker Hims Robot, each with its own ability bar, a 3D cockpit and an ULTIMATE move.
  • Hamster vehicles: a Hamster Tank and a Hamster Helicopter that shoot, can be locked to their owner and are repaired with iron.
  • The "Hims memory" boss event: helicopters, Warrior Hims allies, a zombie horde, the Titan Zombie, a robot upgrade and the King Zombie.
  • Cinematics: cutscenes for the Hims memory event, plus letterboxed cinematics for the Jetpack Grab and the Speaker's farewell. Press sneak to skip the last two.
  • Advancements: Hamster Pilot, Hims Upgrade, Titan Slayer and Long Live the... Fleeing King.
  • Original sounds and music: hamster "hims" sounds, robot lasers, flames and jetpacks, a battle theme, a boss theme and the "Hero's Farewell" music. Every sound has English and Turkish subtitles.
  • English and Turkish translations.
  • Server config: damage, cooldowns, vehicle locks and the cinematics can all be changed per world in serverconfig/hamstermod-server.toml.

🤖 The Robots

Craft a robot, place it, then right-click with the Hamster Robot Remote to climb into your nearest robot (within 32 blocks). New players get a free remote the first time they join (a server can turn this off). Robots belong to the player who placed them, so only you can pilot yours. Robots take no fall damage, and an iron ingot (right-click) repairs 20 HP.

Hamster Robot

A 6-block-tall gray hamster mech with a blue blaster and a glowing blue core. Its ability bar:

Slot Ability
1 Grab: pick up a mob (or put it down)
2 Shoulder: move the held mob onto your shoulder, or back into your hands
3 Arm Laser
4 Punch
5 Exit the robot
6 Head: put the held mob on the robot's head, or take it back
7 Core: a 5-second cone of blue flame that reaches about 32 blocks
8 Energy Slash (needs the Hims Upgrade)
9 Shield: blocks 80% of incoming damage for 5 s (needs the Hims Upgrade)
10 Visor Laser (needs the Hims Upgrade)
11 ULTIMATE: Jetpack Grab

⚡ ULTIMATE: Jetpack Grab (slot 11)

  1. The robot sprints two heavy, dusty steps toward the hostile mob under your crosshair and grabs it.
  2. Its jetpack fires up and carries the mob about 10 blocks into the sky.
  3. For 5 seconds it burns the mob's head with its blue core flame.
  4. Then it hurls the mob into the ground: a 120-damage ground slam (ignores armor) with a shockwave, dust and screen shake.
  5. The robot brakes with its jetpack and lands safely.
  • It works on the King Zombie and the Titan Zombie! Big bosses get carried in a bear hug, and a held boss can't hit anyone.
  • Players are never grabbed. Neither are the Wither, the Ender Dragon, the Warden, the Elder Guardian or anything tagged as a boss.
  • 30-second cooldown after landing. Press the key again during the sprint to cancel.
  • Comes with its own short cinematic for the pilot. Sneak skips it, and the server can turn it off.

Speaker Hims Robot

The red version of the Hamster Robot: red speakers in its feet, a glowing red core and stomping speaker footsteps. Every attack is red: arm laser, core laser, visor laser, energy slash and shield. You pilot it with the same remote, and it has 12 slots: slots 1-10 work like the Hamster Robot's (its core fires a red laser instead of the blue flame), plus:

Slot Ability
11 ULTIMATE: Final Core Blast
12 Spin Laser

🌀 Spin Laser (slot 12)

The speakers launch the robot about 7 blocks into the air. It spins twice in about 2 seconds, sweeping a red laser blade that hits mobs roughly 2.5-15 blocks around it (10 damage per hit), then lands safely. 20-second cooldown after landing.

💥 ULTIMATE: Final Core Blast (slot 11)

Speaker Hims's sacrifice move.

  1. Press once and a warning appears. Press again within 3 seconds to confirm.
  2. The robot pours everything into its core for about 3 seconds, then fires a huge red laser (up to 48 blocks).
  3. The impact becomes a massive bright-yellow fireball dome with a 16-block radius. Its shockwave rings fill the whole damage area.
  4. 150 damage from a direct hit or near the centre, falling to 30% at the edge. It ignores armor and Protection (Resistance still helps), and walls give some cover.
  5. It only hurts hostile mobs and mobs attacking the pilot, owner or robot. It never hurts players, pets, passive animals, hamsters, Warrior Hims, villagers or golems. It sets no fires and breaks no blocks by default.

Then comes the farewell cinematic: about 12 seconds of letterboxed camera shots with subtitles while the "Hero's Farewell" music plays. The robot powers down, closes its eyes and topples onto its side. To bring your hero back, its owner right-clicks it with an Iron Block. The blast can be used again 60 seconds after it fires.

🚁 Vehicles

Vehicle Health Weapon
Hamster Tank 120 HP Shots: 10 damage, one per second
Hamster Helicopter 80 HP Rapid shots: 5 damage
  • Yours only: a vehicle you place belongs to you, and other players see "This vehicle belongs to ...". Sneak + right-click it with an empty hand (or the remote) to share it with everyone or lock it again.
  • Iron repairs: right-click a vehicle with an iron ingot to restore 20 HP. No ingot is used if it's already at full health.
  • Helicopter bail-out: in the air, sneak lowers the helicopter instead of dropping you out. Double-tap sneak to bail out with Slow Falling, which ends when you land. Close to the ground (about 2.5 blocks), one tap is enough.

👑 Bosses: the Hims Memory

Put a hamster on your robot's shoulder or head and it remembers...

  1. Hamster helicopters fly in and Warrior Hims climb down to fight beside you.
  2. A zombie horde charges in with the Titan Zombie (300 HP, boss bar, battle music).
  3. Defeat the Titan to trigger the Hims Upgrade cinematic. Your robot unlocks Energy Slash, Shield and Visor Laser.
  4. Then the King Zombie arrives: a towering, crowned zombie with 600 HP, a boss bar and its own boss music. It hits hard, even if you hide on a ledge!
  5. Bring the King to low health for the ending: his arm gets ripped off and he flees. The fallen arm scatters loot: diamonds, gold, emeralds, golden apples, a 50% chance of netherite scrap, plus 100 XP.

The Titan Zombie also drops good loot (Looting helps, with a chance of a diamond or a golden apple). Each robot can start the event again after a cooldown (10 minutes by default). Spawn eggs for the Hamster, Warrior Hims, Titan Zombie and King Zombie are in the creative tab (named "Hamster Mod" in-game).

📋 Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Forge 47.x (built and tested with 47.4.10)
  • Install on both the client and the server. In multiplayer, the server and every player need the same version.
  • No other mods needed. GeckoLib is not required.

📝 Known Issues and Notes

  • Back up your world before updating. Worlds from 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 open fine. If your world still uses the old Jetpack Grab cooldown default (1200 ticks), 1.5.3 changes it to the new 30-second default (600) once. Values you changed yourself are kept.
  • The server and all players must run the same version (1.5.3).
  • In-game, the mod still shows up as "Hamster Mod" (mod id hamstermod), including the creative tab and the key-bind category.
  • The "-" key is the minus key next to 0. On some layouts (for example Turkish Q) that key has a different symbol, such as "*". You can rebind it in Controls.
  • The Final Core Blast doesn't break blocks by default. Server owners can turn on speakerBlastBreaksBlocks (the world's mobGriefing rule must also be on). The Hamster Robot's blue flame doesn't set blocks on fire unless coreFlameIgnitesBlocks is turned on.
  • Robots can't pick up players by default (robotCanGrabPlayers = false).
  • The Speaker Hims Robot's red paint job is still temporary and may be refined in a future update.
  • The /hamsterrobot command is a developer tool. It is off by default and, when a server enables it, only operators can use it.
