About this project

What does Vanilla Backport Extras add?

Vanilla Backport Extras (Fabric and NeoForge) is an add-on for VanillaBackport that brings the rest of Minecraft 1.21.2 – 26.4 to 1.21.1, made to look and play like vanilla.

Content

  • Ice Caves (26.4): the new cave biome with icicles, ice crystals, brittle ice, crevasses, ice balls and the Frostbite, plus Packed Ice Bricks and jukebox playlists.
  • 26.x babies: new models, textures, sounds and animations for 40 baby mobs, and the adult sound variants of pigs, cows, chickens and cats.
  • Golden dandelion (stops babies from growing up) and the 1.21.2 banner pattern items.
  • Many smaller gameplay changes from 1.21.2 – 26.4 that VanillaBackport does not have.

The Copper Age, Mounts of Mayhem and Wilderness Bound come from VanillaBackport 1.2.

Everything is in the vanilla tabs, and also in its own creative tab so you can see what the mod adds.

Visuals

  • 26.x fog: environmental fog with rain, and the improved fog that blends the terrain into the real sky.
  • Chunks fade in when they load.
  • New lightmap, RGSS and anisotropic filtering, cloud distance up to 128 chunks with Sodium and VulkanMod.
  • New F3 screen and other interface changes.

Every visual change can be turned off in the in-game config (Mod Menu on Fabric, the Mods list on NeoForge, or Sodium's options page); the options that are vanilla in 26.4 are also in the vanilla option screens. The 26.x babies can be turned off as a whole in the Updates section, for example if another mod in your pack already changes baby mobs. Upcoming features are in a separate Preview 26.4 section.

Compatibility

  • On Fabric it works without Sodium, with Sodium 0.8 and with VulkanMod 0.6.
  • Install it on both the client and the server.
  • Fabric: requires Fabric API and VanillaBackport 1.2 or newer.
  • NeoForge: requires VanillaBackport 1.2 or newer (NeoForge version). Works with and without Sodium; on NeoForge the mod's options are not inside Sodium's screen yet (use the Mods list), and VulkanMod is Fabric only.
  • Tested with Quark. If another mod in your pack changes baby mobs or animal variants, turn off 26.x Baby Mobs in the Updates section.

Credits and relation to VanillaBackport

This is an independent add-on, not a fork or modification of VanillaBackport by BlackGear.

  • VanillaBackport is only a required dependency: it is not bundled, and no code, textures or other files from it are included in this mod.
  • VanillaBackport ports most of 1.21.2 – 26.3. Vanilla Backport Extras adds what it does not have (Ice Caves and the rest of 26.4, 26.x babies, gameplay tweaks and the newer visual changes) and is built to run on top of it.
  • No code or assets are taken from VanillaBackport. The textures, models and sounds come from Mojang's newer Minecraft versions (see License).

License

The mod's own code is MIT. The textures, models, sounds, texts and data from newer Minecraft versions, and the parts that reproduce their behavior, belong to Mojang Studios / Microsoft and remain under the Minecraft EULA and Usage Guidelines. This is an unofficial mod, not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.
