About this project
What does Universal Remote Controller add?
📡 Universal Remote Controller (Forge 1.20.1)
Bind a remote to any block and open its interface from anywhere, even across dimensions!
An anvil, a crafting table, a chest, a Refined Storage grid: link it once, then use it from the other side of the world. Remotes run on Forge Energy (RF/FE), so you power them with whatever energy mod you already have in your pack.
✨ Features
- Three remotes: Basic, Advanced and Ultimate, each harder to craft than the last and with a bigger battery.
- Works with any block: vanilla or from other mods. The remote stores the block, the face you clicked and the dimension.
- Use it anywhere: right-click in the air and the bound block’s GUI opens, no matter how far you are. Advanced and Ultimate reach other dimensions too.
- Safe binding: shift + right-click a block and the mod asks you to confirm it before anything is saved. Choose between two modes in the config:
- SCREEN: a centered window shows the block (icon, name, mod, dimension, coordinates) with Confirm / Cancel buttons.
- CLICK: shift + right-click selects, then shift + left-click confirms within 3 seconds (adjustable).
- Energy that matters: opening costs a little FE (more with distance). Keeping the GUI open drains energy every tick, and the menu closes by itself when the remote runs dry.
- Locked while in use: a remote with its GUI open can’t be moved, dropped or stored in the chest it just opened.
- One remote per block: by design. Want to control three things? Craft three remotes.
- No built-in charger: charge it with any RF/FE source, such as chargers, cables or inventory chargers from other mods.
- Modpack-friendly: block and dimension blacklists, with whole-mod wildcards.
- Translated into English and Brazilian Portuguese.
🔋 The three remotes
| Remote | Battery | Open cost | While open | Dimensions |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 50,000 FE | 20–600 FE | 120 FE/s | Same dimension |
| Advanced | 250,000 FE | 15–500 FE | 80 FE/s | Cross-dimension |
| Ultimate | 1,000,000 FE | 10–300 FE | 40 FE/s | Cross-dimension |
Open cost grows with distance up to a cap. Opening or keeping a block open from another dimension costs double.
🛠️ Crafting
Every remote is built from 4 components (circuit, antenna, energy cell and casing), all made with vanilla ingredients. The empty slots in the recipes are filled with redstone.
- Basic: iron, copper, redstone and glass panes.
- Advanced: adds gold, lapis, diamonds, ender eyes and amethyst shards, plus Basic components.
- Ultimate: adds netherite, emeralds, an end crystal and a nether star, plus Advanced components.
All recipes show up in JEI. There’s also a creative tab for testing, with empty and fully charged remotes.
⚙️ Config
config/universalremote-common.toml
mode:SCREENorCLICK.clickWindowSeconds: time to confirm in CLICK mode.blockBlacklist: blocks that can’t be bound or used (minecraft:chest, or a whole mod withexamplemod:*).dimensionBlacklist: dimensions a remote can’t reach into.loadUnloadedChunks: allow opening a bound block in an unloaded chunk (off by default).
🔧 Compatibility & Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.x.
- An energy mod is required to charge the remotes. Without one, they can’t be powered.
- Multiplayer: install on both server and clients.
- Works with modded blocks that open a standard GUI. Some mods have their own distance or dimension checks and may behave differently. If a block doesn’t work, please report it with the mod name and the log.
❓ FAQ
Can I control more than one block with a single remote?
No. Each remote holds one block. That’s intentional.
Does it work across dimensions?
Yes, with the Advanced and Ultimate remotes. The Basic remote works in the same dimension only.
What happens if the remote runs out of energy while open?
The GUI closes and the remote stays empty until you charge it again.
Can I stop a block or a dimension from being used?
Yes, add it to blockBlacklist or dimensionBlacklist in the config.
How do I charge it?
With any mod that provides RF/FE: charge it in a charger, or keep it in your inventory next to an inventory charger.
