ABYSS DESCENT
A Survival-Horror Ocean Descent Mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 (Fabric)
Created by Toby Greenwood
"Thank you for accepting your position with Meridian Deep Recovery."
Overview
Abyss Descent is an immersive, narrative-driven survival-horror mod for Minecraft Fabric 1.20.1. Stepping into the shoes of a deep-sea salvage technician for Meridian Deep Recovery, your simple assignment quickly spirals into a dark, claustrophobic plunge into unexplored ocean depths.
Featuring fully voiced audio briefings, custom dynamic lighting, unique survival mechanics, terrifying fauna, and hand-crafted abyssal biomes, Abyss Descent changes how you view the dark waters below.
Features
Immersive Briefing & Dynamic Descent
The Meridian Recovery Site: Locate the towering steel gantry and the massive Meridian diving bell in the Overworld.
Fully Voiced Audio: Experience a cinematic pre-descent briefing with full voice acting, flickering alarms, and subtitle support.
The Fall: Ride the bell down into the dark. When cable integrity fails, you drop into the pitch-black abyss with no immediate way home.
Deep-Sea Survival Systems
Helmet Oxygen System: Your helmet tank continuously breathes for you. Refill at air pockets, Oxygen Stations, hydrothermal vents, or with portable canisters. Pay attention to your 25% and 10% warnings!
Pressure Ratings: The ocean floor will crush you without the right gear. Upgrade from your Mk I helmet to the Pressure Seal Mk II (Layer II) and Hadal Seal Mk III (Layer III) to survive deeper trenching.
Directional Helmet Lamp (Default:
L): Illuminate the dark void directly in front of you.Acoustic Sonar: Scan for objectives, track depth and distance, and highlight nearby sea life moving in the pitch dark.
Underwater Flares: Craftable lighting tools you can throw into the deep to illuminate hazards for 30 seconds.
The Layers of the Abyss
Explore four distinct, deeply atmospheric biomes connected by a winding oceanic chasm known as The Throat:
| Layer | Depth | Biome | Key Hazards & Secrets |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | 4,000 m | The Sunless Shallows | Dark silt, ghostkelp, old expedition wrecks. Beware Gulper Eels & Hollow Divers. |
| II | 5,500 m | The Bone Gardens | Colossal whale-fall skeletons and bone-white silt. Home to Bone Anglers and Giant Isopods. |
| III | 7,000 m | The Lumen Thicket | Glowing tube-worm forests and drifting spores. Home to Veil Jellies... and things that call your name. |
| IV | 8,700 m | The Hadal Trench | Jagged black rock, hydrothermal vents, sulfur crystals, and THE KEEPER. |
Story & Boss Progression (Minor Spoilers!)
Outpost Tethys: Discover an abandoned underwater habitat. Its AI will inform you that the Ascension Lift home requires three core parts to rebuild.
Audio Logs: Recover 6 scattered audio logs to piece together the tragic fate of the previous crew.
The Ballast Regulator: Salvage this from the Whalefall Lab inside a colossal skeleton in Layer II.
The Lumen Heart: Claim this artifact from the Lantern Shrine in Layer III — but be prepared for what awakens when you touch it.
The Abyssal Eye: Dive into the bottom of the Hadal Trench and defeat THE KEEPER — a multi-phase boss utilizing charged strikes, sonic roars, pressure pulses, and minion summons.
The Ascension: Bring all three components back to Tethys, initialize the lift, and make your escape.
