About this project

What does Configurable Zombie Drops add?

Zombie Custom Drops

Configurable extra item drops for zombie-family mobs — choose items, drop chances, and stack sizes for every entry.

Minecraft Forge and NeoForge Java License

Stock "zombies drop more loot" mods give you whatever the author hardcoded.

Zombie Custom Drops puts you in control. Choose which items drop, configure their drop chances, and set stack-size ranges for each entry. Customize drops for vanilla and modded items alike.

Features

  • Per-entry drop rules — item;chance;min;max. Each entry rolls independently.
  • Per-entity drop tables — Prefix entries with a mob ID or entity-type tag, such as minecraft:drowned=..., to restrict drops to specific mobs.
  • Item NBT support — Attach SNBT to dropped items, including potions, enchanted gear, and named quest items.
  • Looting scaling — Configure lootingChanceBonus to increase drop chances per Looting level.
  • Per-kill drop cap — All entries roll independently. Successful drops are randomly selected up to maxExtraDropsPerKill. Set to 0 for unlimited extra drops.
  • Zombie family only — Supports zombies, husks, drowned, zombie villagers, and zombified piglins. Other mobs are rejected, even when selected through tags.
  • Modded items supported — Any registered namespace:item ID, including TaCZ ammunition, mod currency, and quest items.
  • Entity-type tags — Use tags such as #minecraft:undead or #forge:zombies.
  • Player-kill option — Restrict extra drops to player kills. Pet kills count too.
  • Automatic configuration reload — Changes apply when the configuration file is saved, without /reload.
  • No required dependencies — One JAR per supported loader.

Configuration

The configuration file is created on first launch:

config/zombie_custom_drops-common.toml

[drops]
# Entry format: "[entity=]item[{nbt}];chance;min;max"
# entity = optional mob ID or #tag
# nbt = optional SNBT applied to the dropped stack
# chance = 0.0 to 1.0 (0.15 = 15%)
# min/max = optional stack-size range, default 1

extraDrops = [
    "minecraft:rotten_flesh;0.35;1;2",
    "minecraft:bone;0.20;1;2",
    "minecraft:coal;0.15;1;2",
    "minecraft:carrot;0.10;1;2",
    "minecraft:potato;0.10;1;2",
    "minecraft:iron_ingot;0.08;1;1",
    "minecraft:phantom_membrane;0.05;1;1",
    "minecraft:ender_pearl;0.04;1;1",
    "minecraft:blaze_rod;0.03;1;1",
    "minecraft:drowned=minecraft:copper_ingot;0.30;1;3",
    "#forge:zombies=tacz:ammo;0.05;4;12",
    "minecraft:zombie=minecraft:potion{Potion:\"minecraft:healing\"};0.02"
]

# Maximum successful extra drops per kill.
# 0 = unlimited
maxExtraDropsPerKill = 1

# Extra chance per Looting level.
# 0.01 = +1 percentage point per level
lootingChanceBonus = 0.01

[filter]
# Entity IDs or #namespace:entity_type_tag.
# Only supported zombie-family entities are accepted.

entities = [
    "minecraft:zombie",
    "minecraft:husk",
    "minecraft:drowned",
    "minecraft:zombie_villager",
    "minecraft:zombified_piglin"
]

# Only drop extra items when a player or their pet gets the kill.
requirePlayerKill = false

# Log drop rolls to the console.
debugLog = false

Drop Entry Format

Each entry follows this format:

[entity=]item[{nbt}];chance;min;max

Field Type Example Description
entity Mob ID or #tag minecraft:drowned= Optional restriction to a specific mob or tag
item Item ID tacz:ammo Any registered vanilla or modded item
{nbt} SNBT {Potion:"minecraft:healing"} Optional item data
chance Decimal 0.08 8% base chance per roll
min/max Integers 4;12 Minimum and maximum stack size

The minimum and maximum values are optional. If omitted, the stack size defaults to 1.

Each entry rolls independently. If multiple entries succeed, maxExtraDropsPerKill determines how many successful entries actually drop.

Example: Drowned-Only Drops

"minecraft:drowned=minecraft:copper_ingot;0.30;1;3"

This entry gives drowned a 30% chance to drop 1–3 copper ingots.

Example: Modded Ammunition

"#forge:zombies=tacz:ammo;0.05;4;12"

This entry gives matching supported zombie-family mobs a 5% chance to drop 4–12 TaCZ ammunition items, provided the item exists.

Example: Potion with NBT

"minecraft:zombie=minecraft:potion{Potion:\"minecraft:healing\"};0.02"

This entry configures a 2% chance for zombies to drop a healing potion.
