About this project

What does Squishlings add?

Cute, tameable slimes with 24 colours and an ultra-rare rainbow. Pet them, carry them, give them hats and gardens, watch them sleep, and let them help your crops grow. They never split. Forge 1.20.1, needs GeckoLib.

Squishlings adds a brand-new slime you'll actually want to keep: a soft, jiggly little blob with big glossy eyes, blush cheeks and a face that shows how it feels. Vanilla slimes are not changed.

Look

  • Round, bouncy jelly body: a solid core inside a see-through jelly shell
  • 24 colours, picked at random: red, orange, yellow, lime, green, mint, teal, cyan, sky blue, blue, indigo, purple, lavender, magenta, pink, rose, peach, brown, cream, white, grey, black, gold and silver
  • Ultra-rare Rainbow Slime (1 in 1000): smoothly cycles through every colour and sparkles
  • Over 15 faces: angry, calm, happy, hungry, hurt, sleepy, sleeping, ouch, scared, alert, begging, surprised, content, yawning, tending and thirsty
  • Wobbles, hops with squash and stretch, pounces, dances when happy and droops when sleepy

They feel alive

  • They blink, and their eyes follow you around
  • The jelly squishes when it lands and stretches when it jumps
  • Idle pets fidget: they look around, wiggle, stretch, do tiny hops and yawn
  • Every Squishling has a little personality: bouncy, shy, curious or sleepy
  • They beg with sparkly eyes when you hold a vegetable, tremble in thunderstorms, puff up when a monster is near, and do a happy hop when you come home

Wild Squishlings

  • Spawn rarely on the surface of overworld land biomes (modded biomes too)
  • Wild adults are grumpy and will bite you (3 hearts on Hard, 10 hearts of health)
  • 1 in 5 is a baby: harmless, shy, and curious about vegetables
  • Drop slime balls; they never split

Taming and pets

  • Feed a wild Squishling vegetables (carrot, potato, beetroot, or any modded vegetable in the forge:vegetables tag) for a 1 in 3 chance to tame it. It stays calm for a few seconds after each snack.
  • Right-click your pet with an empty hand to switch between Follow, Sit and Wander (roams within 16 blocks of where you set it)
  • Teleports to you in Follow mode, defends you from hostile mobs (but never attacks creepers, players or other people's pets)
  • No player can hurt a tamed Squishling, not even you by accident
  • Feeding heals it and makes it happy (with a little dance)
  • Tamed babies grow up instantly when fed a gold ingot, diamond or emerald
  • Only the owner can command it; name tags work

Things to do with your pet

  • Boop it: right-click with a feather for a squish, a bounce and hearts
  • Bedtime: in Sit mode it falls asleep at night, curls up and lets out little "z"s. Sit it on a bed and it flops into the mattress. Sleeping slowly heals it.
  • Hats: pumpkins, mob heads, a flower pot, a cake, a carpet beret and more. Crouch + shears takes it off.
  • Walking garden: put a patch of soil on top and plant up to 3 tiny flowers, saplings or mushrooms. Bone meal grows a surprise flower.
  • Garden helper: water a sitting Squishling with a water bucket and crops around it (9 x 9) grow about 10% faster, up to 20% when it's happy and wears a garden. Works on vanilla and modded crops, and respects seasons mods.
  • Water bucket fun: it bloats up, leaks water from little holes and squishes back to normal, happy
  • Arrow sponge: arrows that hit your pet sink harmlessly into its jelly and are spat back out for you to pick up
  • Compacting: drop 9 iron ingots (or nuggets, gems, wheat...) next to your pet and it slurps them up, chews, and spits out the block. Only for recipes that work both ways.

Carry your pet

  • Crouch and right-click your tamed Squishling with both hands empty to pick it up, then right-click a block to put it down
  • Built to never lose or duplicate your pet: it survives dying, logging out, server restarts and changing dimension. In hardcore, it is placed safely next to your respawn point.
  • Works alongside Carry On (Squishlings handle their own pickup)

Advancements

A Squishlings advancement tab: tame your first, tame 5 and 20, collect colours up to the Full Palette of all 24, tame the rainbow, boop one, watch it sleep, dress it up, grow a walking garden and earn a Green Thumb.

Configurable

Every feature can be tuned or switched off.

  • config/squishlings-common.toml: spawn rarity, rainbow and baby chance, health, damage, tame chance, wander radius, mood timers, pickup, water bucket, arrows, compacting, advancements, booping, sleeping, hats and gardens, garden boost.
  • config/squishlings-client.toml: rainbow sparkles, water particles, and the living expressions (blinking, personalities, fidgets, look range, sounds).
  • Data packs can change the hat, soil, plant and crop lists with tags.

Test commands

  • /summon squishlings:squishling ~ ~ ~ {Color:"mint"} (any colour, or "rainbow")
  • /summon squishlings:squishling ~ ~ ~ {Baby:1b}
