About this project

What does Afterfall add?

Afterfall transforms Minecraft into a persistent apocalypse-survival sandbox featuring infected hordes, injuries, scavenging, vehicles, terrain-integrated cities, failing utilities, factions, quests, and rebuilding.

Afterfall is an original apocalypse-survival mod under development for Minecraft Java 1.21.1 with NeoForge. It combines Minecraft’s exploration, construction, crafting, dimensions, and procedural worlds with deeper survival mechanics and a persistent world that remembers player actions.

Planned Main Features

  • Advanced survival: Hydration, stamina, fatigue, temperature, nutrition, wetness, encumbrance, sleep, illness, and food spoilage.
  • Detailed medical gameplay: Body-part injuries, bleeding, fractures, burns, pain, wound infections, treatments, and the fictional Greywake pathogen.
  • Dynamic infected: Multiple infected variants with sight, hearing, blood detection, searching, climbing, breaching, migration, regional populations, and hordes.
  • Scavenging and scarcity: Location-sensitive loot, persistent containers, secured caches, supply crates, world-age depletion, and configurable loot replenishment.
  • Terrain-integrated settlements: Original cities, towns, farms, industrial districts, roads, bridges, and landmarks generated alongside Minecraft terrain instead of being pasted over completed mountains or rivers.
  • Vehicles: Repairable bicycles, cars, trucks, emergency vehicles, boats, trailers, and planned late-game aircraft with persistent fuel, parts, cargo, damage, keys, and ownership.
  • Professions and progression: Character backgrounds, positive and negative traits, 18 skills, skill manuals, practical experience, and specializations.
  • Base building and utilities: Barricades, protected structures, generators, regional electricity and water failures, plumbing, refrigeration, workshops, and utility restoration.
  • Living world: Seasons, dangerous weather, farming, wildlife, fishing, trapping, foraging, environmental stories, erosion, and changing regional conditions.
  • NPC communities: Survivors, specialists, traders, bandits, factions, settlement management, reputation, recruitment, and persistent jobs.
  • Original story and quests: The Greywake outbreak, six original settlements, environmental storytelling, optional campaign arcs, faction choices, and several world-continuation endings.
  • Multiplayer support: Server-authoritative survival, combat, inventories, vehicles, settlements, quests, permissions, and configurable PvP.
  • Extensive configuration: Accessible, Balanced, and Hardcore presets with individual controls for infection, population, loot, utilities, survival needs, vehicles, events, and world generation.

Afterfall is an original project. It does not include copied code, maps, dialogue, textures, models, audio, UI, or other assets from Project Zomboid or another game.

Development status: Afterfall is currently in the planning and pre-production stage. Features listed above describe the intended scope and may change during development and testing.
