About this project
What does Dynamic Weather add?
Dynamic Weather
**Realistic storms, supercells, tornadoes and hurricanes for Minecraft.**
Volumetric clouds drift across the sky, thunderstorms build up on the horizon and roll over the land - and sometimes they bring a tornado with them.
> ⚠️ **Alpha version** - bugs are expected! Please report them so they can be fixed.
> ⚠️ **Photosensitivity warning:** this mod contains flashing lights such as lightning. Flashes can be reduced with the reduceFlashing option in the config.
🌪️ Tornadoes
- **Realistic formation:** a rotating wall cloud lowers, a funnel slowly reaches down and touches the ground
- **EF0 to EF5** - the rating is based on the wind speed (Enhanced Fujita scale)
- **Different shapes:** rope, cone, stovepipe, wedge, drillbit and multi-vortex
- The funnel has the color of the storm cloud and widens where it meets the cloud
- Visible from **any distance**, even through rain
- Tornadoes **travel with their parent supercell** and finally rope out and dissipate
- **Block destruction:** every block has its own wind resistance - glass breaks first, wood before stone. Strong tornadoes tear blocks out up to 30 blocks away and throw debris through the air
- Players, mobs and items get **pulled in and lifted up** - but you are safe inside a closed building
- Inside a tornado the air is full of **swirling dust**, and near strong tornadoes you can't see anything but dust and lightning - even through your windows
🌀 Hurricanes, typhoons & squall lines
- **Hurricanes and typhoons** form over the ocean: a calm eye, an eyewall with extreme winds and spiral rain bands. The wind circles around the eye
- **Squall lines:** long, fast-moving lines of thunderstorms with destructive gusts and constant lightning
⛈️ Weather
- **Volumetric clouds** with sunlight, shadows and smooth movement
- **Supercells** with a rotating mesocyclone, cauliflower-like towers and an anvil
- Many weather types: **drizzle, rain, showers, downpours, thunderstorms, cumulonimbus clouds, supercells, hailstorms, downbursts, squall lines, hurricanes, typhoons, sleet, blizzards and dust storms**
- Weather depends on the **biome**
- Clouds and storms all move with the same **wind direction**
- **Grass and trees bend in the wind** - the stronger the wind, the more they bend
- **Wind-driven rain**, hail that can hurt you and break glass, **ultra lightning** salvos
- Inside a storm the **atmosphere changes** - dark fog and very low visibility
- **Indoors** you hear the wind whistle, windows rattle and the roar of an approaching tornado
🏠 Storm-proof building
- **Windows** in 12 materials (plain, grid, barred, with shutters) that open, close and connect into tall windows when stacked
- **Glass doors, reinforced doors** and an indestructible **storm cellar door**
- Open doors and windows **swing and slam in the wind**
- **Barricade boards:** board up windows and doors so they can't be opened or blown open
📡 Storm chaser equipment
- **Weather Radar** and **Handheld Weather Radar**
- **Tornado Siren** that sounds automatically when a tornado is nearby
- **Anemometer** (wind speed) and **Barometer** (air pressure and forecast)
- **Severe weather warnings** in chat
- The **Wandering Trader** sells storm equipment
- Everything can be found in its own **Dynamic Weather** creative tab
