About this project
What does AOSO MOBS add?
AOSO MOBS
131 new creatures for the Overworld, each with its own shape, its own coat and its own way of living. Made for AOSO, and it also runs on its own.
They spawn naturally, the way vanilla animals do, in the biomes where they belong.
The great beasts
- Savanna: elephants, giraffes, rhinos, lions, cheetahs, zebras and hyenas.
- Woods and hills: red deer, moose, bison, brown bears, wild boar, lynx, ibex, yaks and musk oxen.
- Jungle: tigers, jaguars, gorillas, tapirs, okapis, sloths, monkeys and red pandas.
- The small folk: squirrels, hedgehogs, raccoons, badgers, skunks, porcupines, meerkats and mice.
Birds that really fly
- Birds of the sky: they fly, wheel, soar and land: eagles, hawks, owls, vultures, albatrosses, gulls, toucans, kingfishers, jays, cardinals, robins, sparrows, hummingbirds, woodpeckers and magpies.
- Water and wading birds: mallards, swans, geese, pelicans and puffins, plus flamingos and herons.
- Ground birds and runners: peacocks, turkeys and pheasants, and the great runners: ostriches and emus.
Rivers, shores and swamps
Crocodiles and hippos in the rivers, Komodo dragons, giant tortoises, iguanas, chameleons, pythons, cobras and rattlesnakes. Toads and poison dart frogs, otters, beavers, capybaras and platypuses. Seals, walruses and emperor penguins, and crabs on the shore.
The seas
- Ocean giants: great white and hammerhead sharks, whale sharks, blue and humpback whales, orcas, narwhals and belugas.
- Open water: manta rays and stingrays, swordfish, tuna, barracuda and sunfish.
- The deep and the reef: anglerfish, lionfish, moray eels, jellyfish, octopuses, lobsters, sea stars and seahorses.
- Rivers: piranhas, catfish, trout, koi and electric eels.
The small things
Butterflies, moths, dragonflies, fireflies that glow at night, ladybirds, stag beetles, snails, grasshoppers, scorpions and mantises.
Every creature has its ways
- They graze, flee, keep their distance, fight back or hunt.
- Dangerous ones: snakes and Komodo dragons are venomous, scorpions and stingrays sting, poison dart frogs are toxic to touch, and jellyfish sting whoever swims into them.
- Defences: the skunk sprays, the electric eel shocks, the octopus inks and changes colour, and hedgehogs and porcupines prick whoever hits them.
- Habits: the python constricts its prey, the crocodile waits in ambush, the great white hunts swimmers, gulls and magpies steal, tuna, piranhas and trout swim in schools, and the humpback breaches.
- The gorilla's display: he rises on his hind legs, hoots faster and faster, and beats his chest.
- The forked tongues of the Komodo dragon and the snakes flick in and out, tasting the air.
- Owls, moths and fireflies come out at night.
Creatures to keep
18 creatures can be tamed: red panda, raccoon, capuchin, meerkat, hedgehog, squirrel, river otter, capybara, giant tortoise, green iguana, leopard gecko, toucan, cardinal, blue jay, robin, sparrow, peacock and mallard.
Offer one its favourite food and it may take to you. A tamed creature:
- follows you (the birds flutter around you and fly after you)
- sits and waits when you click it with an empty hand
- comes back to your side when you go too far
- shows its fondness now and then
Its young are yours too.
True to life
- Real sizes: the blue whale is 90 blocks long, the brown bear and the Komodo dragon are huge, and the elephant and giraffe tower over you.
- Real colours: the orca in her true black and white, with the white eye patch and the grey saddle.
- Real voices: many animals use recordings of the living animal: the bald eagle, the red-tailed hawk's famous scream, the bison, the grizzly, the humpback whale, the orca and more.
- And the lion has a name the players gave him: Allahumma La Hasad.
Credits
Everything in this mod is new and original: the models, textures and behaviour.
Some animal voices come from public-domain recordings by the U.S. National Park Service and NOAA, cut and cleaned for the game. Full sound credits are in aoso_fauna_sound_credits.txt inside the mod.
