About this project

What does Lectern Index add?

Lectern Index

A private location catalogue for signed books on physical lecterns. Find the title you recorded without scanning whole libraries or copying book pages.

Commands

  • /lecternindex register <x y z> records the signed written book at a lectern within six blocks.
  • /lecternindex refresh <x y z> revisits a registered location to update its title/author or mark it empty/missing/unsigned.
  • /lecternindex list [page] displays eight saved entries at a time.
  • /lecternindex title <page> <query> and /lecternindex author <page> <query> search your own catalogue.
  • /lecternindex remove <entry> removes one saved location. Entry numbers shift after removal.

All results are last observed, never a live guarantee. Return to the lectern and refresh to check changes. Lists and searches do not access remote chunks. Registration and refresh require loaded chunks and nearby coordinates, not line of sight; server owners should note this may expose signed-book titles/authors through nearby walls. The mod does not integrate with claims. Book pages are never stored or searched. Writable/unsigned books cannot be registered. Title and author strings are bounded and control characters are removed.

Each player's UUID has a separate world-persisted catalogue capped at 64 entries. Commands have a half-second per-player cooldown. No books, inventories or world blocks are changed. There is no automatic library scan, teleportation or global catalogue.

Versions

Separate files: NeoForge Minecraft 1.21.1 / Java 21, NeoForge Minecraft 26.3 / Java 25. Install on the server or your matching singleplayer instance. Multiplayer clients do not need this mod.

Provenance and license

Original catalogue logic and lectern observation commands by RickCode. Loader/bootstrap, build packaging and QA scaffolding reuse our MIT Pocket Balance project. Unlike Pocket Balance's inventory-change accounting, Lectern Index saves explicitly selected lectern locations and book-title metadata. It does not include inventory accounting and does not require Pocket Balance. MIT copyright/license notices are included.

New beta release; bugs may remain. Both published NeoForge production artifacts passed dedicated-server startup, real lectern/command QA and a separate-process saved-world restart. Pure catalogue/persistence tests passed 1,136 assertions on Java 21 and 25. Graphical Minecraft client and real networked multiplayer testing have not been performed.
