Questdex
Global quests and a curated bestiary for Forge 1.20.1 servers. Operators create quests with claimable rewards and build a bestiary of mobs and items (health, damage, drops, recipes) from in-game menus, plus a mob loot editor. Mod-compatible.

About this project
What does Questdex add?
QuestDex – Quests & Bestiary
A global quest system and a curated bestiary built for servers. Operators create quests and build the bestiary from in-game menus, with no config files to edit.
Forge 1.20.1 · Required on the server and on every client (same .jar) · Open the menu with K (rebindable in Controls → QuestDex)
Language note: the in-game interface and the commands are currently in Spanish (for example
/mision,/bestiario). This page lists every command so you can use them without translating.
Quests
- Operators create quests, and they show up automatically for every player.
- Four quest types: kill mobs, collect items, craft items and enter a dimension (modded and datapack dimensions work too).
- The reward is never given automatically: the player must complete the condition and press Claim on that quest.
- Rewards: items (with count and NBT data), experience, and commands.
- On-complete commands run the moment the player meets the condition (once). On-claim commands run when the player presses Claim. Use
%jugador%as the player's name. - In-game quest editor with live suggestions while you type the objective (modded mobs, items and dimensions included).
- Changing the condition of a quest that already has progress resets everyone's progress (you get a warning first).
- Text supports color codes (
&6gold,&lbold) and line breaks (\n).
Quest types
| Type | How it counts |
|---|---|
| Kill mobs | Kills made after the quest was created |
| Collect items | Reads the player's inventory; the items are taken when claiming |
| Craft items | Items crafted after the quest was created |
| Enter a dimension | Overworld, Nether, End, or any modded/datapack dimension |
Bestiary
- It starts empty: only what an operator adds shows up, and it never shows which mod something comes from.
- Two sections, Mobs and Items, both with a search box.
- Mobs show a live preview, health, damage, what they drop with amount and chance, and a custom description.
- Items show how to craft them (an ingredient grid). Smelting, blasting, smoking, campfire and stonecutting recipes show up too. Slots that accept several items cycle through them.
- You don't need to know any names: + Add opens a searchable list of every mob or item in the game and in your mods. A separate button adds the item in your main hand.
- Everything is calculated automatically, for modded mobs and items too.
- Operators can write a description for every entry, with color codes.
Mob loot editor (operators only)
A separate Loot menu lets operators change what mobs drop:
- + Mob picks a mob to edit (it starts from what the mob normally drops).
- + Item adds an item to its drops.
- Edit sets the minimum and maximum amount, the drop chance in %, and whether it requires a player kill.
- Remove deletes a drop (a mob can be left with no drops at all).
- Vanilla discards the changes and the mob goes back to its original loot.
The custom loot replaces the mob's original loot (including worn equipment), and the bestiary shows exactly what it really drops. The Looting enchantment does not increase these drops.
Commands (operators only, permission level 2)
Everything can also be done from the menus. The server checks permissions on every action, so players without permission cannot use any of this.

/mision recompensa xp nether 200
Configuration
config/questdex-common.toml:
avisarMisionNueva(defaulttrue): chat notification when an operator creates a new quest.mobsExcluidos: mobs that cannot be added to the bestiary ("modid:mob"or"modid:*"for a whole mod).mobsExtra: entities to allow in the bestiary even if a mod does not register them as living entities.
Data
Everything is saved in the world (data/questdex_data.dat): quests, bestiary entries with their descriptions, custom loot and per-player progress.
Notes
- Drops for modded mobs are estimated by "killing" a dummy copy of the mob many times, so they can be approximate. Run
/bestiario recalcularafter installing a datapack. - Drops that only happen when a player kills the mob, or that depend on a mob variant, may not show for modded mobs.
- Displayed damage is the mob's base attack damage (before armor and difficulty). Ranged or non-melee mobs show "no direct attack".
- Found a bug? Please report it with your Forge version and your mod list.
