Beta. This is the Minecraft 1.21.1 release. It is still being tested, so please report any problems.

Requirements

Minecraft 1.21.1, Cobblemon (required), and either NeoForge or Fabric with Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin.

Features

Bosses that live in the world. Each boss has its own behaviour, with phases that change as its health drops.

Arenas placed as structures. Bosses appear in their own arenas. Use /place structure to find them.

Shield and capture. Bosses have a shield you must break before you can damage them. A broken shield can open a capture window.

New boss abilities. Garchomp burrows underground and is briefly out of reach. Tyranitar calls up a sandstorm and enrages. Ursaluna stuns you and enrages when hurt.

Aspect forms. Some bosses take a different form, such as a god form.

Battles. Challenging a boss starts a Cobblemon battle. Double battles can be enabled in the config.

Rewards. Defeating a boss gives a chest with its own loot table.

Data-driven bosses. Bosses are defined in datapack JSON, so server owners can add or change them.

Configuration

Settings live in the mod config. The main options are rewards, double battles and the aura glow colour.

Commands

All commands need operator permission (level 2). Commands that act on "the nearest boss" look within 64 blocks.

  • /cobblebosses spawn <id>: summons a boss where you stand (for example garchomp, tyranitar or ursaluna). Tab completion lists every boss that is loaded.
  • /cobblebosses list: lists the active bosses with their state, shield, phase, health and position.
  • /cobblebosses break: breaks the shield of the nearest boss.
  • /cobblebosses shield <value>: sets the shield of the nearest boss.
  • /cobblebosses remove: removes the nearest boss.

Boss Spawner. The Boss Spawner block is in the operators tab of the creative inventory. Shift+Right Click to open the config menu or point a command at it with its coordinates:

  • /cobblebosses spawner get <pos>: shows its current settings.
  • /cobblebosses spawner boss <pos> <id>: chooses which boss it summons.
  • /cobblebosses spawner radius <pos> <blocks>: distance at which a player triggers it (1 to 256).
  • /cobblebosses spawner leash <pos> <blocks>: how far the boss may roam from the spawner (0 to 512).
  • /cobblebosses spawner respawn <pos> <ticks>: time before the boss comes back (20 ticks = 1 second).
  • /cobblebosses spawner zone <pos> at_block: the boss appears on the spawner block.
  • /cobblebosses spawner zone <pos> random <radius> <y_range>: the boss appears at a random spot around the spawner.
  • /cobblebosses spawner trigger <pos> <player_near|redstone|both>: what makes the spawner summon its boss.
  • /cobblebosses spawner reset <pos>: clears its state so it can summon again.

Arenas use vanilla commands: /place template cobblebosses:arena/<boss>, /place structure and /locate structure.

Add your own bosses

You do not need to write any code. Each boss is one small JSON file in a datapack, at data/<your_namespace>/cobblebosses/bosses/<boss>.json. Copy one that fits most and modify to your cobblemon, reload, and your boss shows up in /cobblebosses spawn.

In that file you choose:

  • Who it is: any Cobblemon species, and its size.
  • How it fights in the world: its shield, how it moves, and the attacks it uses in each phase.
  • How the battle goes: its level, moves and held-item rules for the Cobblemon battle.
  • What you get: experience and item rewards, and whether it can be captured.

The bosses that come with the mod are written the same way, so they work as examples to copy and change.

Coming soon to the wiki: a step-by-step guide to making a custom boss, with a full list of attacks and settings.
