About this project
What does Simple Machines add?
Simple Machines
Simple Machines adds powered machines that you build by hand. Every machine starts as a chassis, and you fit its parts one at a time and fix each one in place with a screwdriver.
For Minecraft 26.1 to 26.1.2, on NeoForge and Fabric.

What's in it
- Two starter machines that burn fuel: the Alloy Furnace (steel and Redstone Copper ingots) and the Extruder (iron and copper rods).
- 17 machines built on a chassis: Solid Fuel Generator, Lava Generator, Battery, Charger, Electric Furnace, Rolling Mill, Compressor, Crusher, Sawmill, Alloy Smelter, Auto Crafter, Crop Harvester, Shearer, Stone Generator, Water Generator, Mechanical Hive and Quarry. Each one has its own assembly that decides what the chassis becomes.
- Two chassis tiers: iron, and steel, which runs 1.5x faster and holds twice the energy.
- Upgrades: Overclocker Circuit (more speed) and Energy Cell (more storage). Two slots per machine.
- Finishes: panels and worktops in the twelve woods, the sixteen concrete colours, iron, copper and steel.
- Metals and parts: steel and Redstone Copper ingots, rods, plates, casings, iron, copper and gold dusts, silicon wafers, control boards and power cells.
- Electric Drill and Chainsaw, put together part by part on a Tool Stand and charged in the Charger. A Diamond Drill Bit lets the drill mine obsidian, and a Diamond-Tipped Chain on a steel chainsaw fells whole trees.
- Machines keep their stored energy and upgrades when broken, and a comparator reads how full they are.
Power
Power is FE on NeoForge and Team Reborn Energy on Fabric (included in the Fabric jar). There are three voltage tiers:
| Tier | Cable | Max |
|---|---|---|
| LV | Redstone Copper Cable | 1000 FE/t |
| MV | Gold Cable | 8000 FE/t |
| HV | Diamond Cable | 64000 FE/t |
Cables lose nothing. The LV/MV and MV/HV Transformers step power up or down, losing 5% a step, and a screwdriver picks which face is the high side. Machines run on LV and the Quarry on MV. Wiring a higher voltage into something rated lower makes it explode.
A screwdriver turns a cable side off or on, and dyed cables only join cables of the same colour, so parallel runs stay apart.
Generators
- Solid Fuel Generator: burns fuel, 40 FE/t (60 on steel).
- Lava Generator: 80 FE/t (120 on steel) from a 4 bucket lava tank, filled by bucket or fluid pipe.
- Solar Panels: iron 4, copper 20 and gold 100 FE/t by day, and a diamond panel that makes 1000 FE/t by day and 500 at night on MV.
- Wind Turbine: a base with 1 to 5 Turbine Blades stacked on top, up to 250 FE/t. It makes more the higher it stands, the more open air around it, and in rain or thunder. The blades turn together and sound louder as they speed up.
- Battery: 500k FE on iron, 1M on steel, and keeps its charge as an item. A gauge on the front shows how full it is.
Automation and skyblock
- Stone Generator makes cobblestone where water and lava touch it, and the Water Generator fills buckets next to two water sources.
- The Crusher turns cobblestone into gravel and gravel into sand, and ores into 2 dusts. It works with any mod's metal whose ore, raw and dust tags are filled.
- The Compressor turns ingots into plates, sand into Silicon Wafers, 32 compostables into a Biofuel Block and 64 coal into a diamond. Seeds and crops from other mods count as compostables when they are tagged c:seeds or c:crops.
- The Mechanical Hive makes honeycomb, and honey bottles from glass bottles.
- The Crop Harvester harvests and replants grown crops in front of it, and the Shearer shears sheep.
- The Auto Crafter crafts a pattern you set from the items fed into it, with a redstone mode button.
Pipes and tanks
- Item Pipes and Fluid Pipes. A screwdriver cycles each pipe end through input, output and disconnected. Output ends pull from what they touch and share it round every input on the network.
- Pipe filters go on input ends to allow or deny a list of items or fluids. Pipes send matching items to filtered ends first.
- Fluid Tank: holds 16 buckets of one fluid and keeps it when broken.
- Auto-output: a screwdriver on a side of a machine makes it push its outputs into a chest or other inventory on that side.
- Pipes can be dyed like cables. Machine inputs and outputs also work with hoppers and other mods' pipes.
Quarry
The Quarry Assembly is made from an Electric Drill, and the drill's frame, bit and upgrades carry over. It digs a 16x16 area down to bedrock, or any size up to 64 blocks set with Landmarks, at 8000 FE a block on MV. Once powered it builds a raised frame a piece at a time, clearing anything in the way, then a gantry moves the drill head across the area layer by layer. Up to three filters choose what it keeps, and a diamond bit lets it dig obsidian.
Getting started
- Craft a Screwdriver from a copper ingot and a stick.
- Build an Alloy Furnace (bricks, copper ingots and a furnace) and an Extruder (iron ingots, a piston and a furnace). These make the steel, Redstone Copper and rods that everything else needs.
- Craft an Iron Chassis and place it. Recipes unlock in the recipe book once you hold one of their ingredients, so holding a chassis shows you all the assembly recipes.
- Right click the chassis with each part in turn and screw it in: an assembly, a control board, up to two upgrades if you want them, panels, then a worktop. Sneak with the screwdriver to take the last part off again.
- A Solid Fuel Generator and some cable will power your first machines. The Compressor makes the plates you need for item pipes and metal finishes, and the Rolling Mill makes rods and casings.
Manual
With Simple Books installed, picking up your first screwdriver gives you the Simple Machines Manual. It is a blueprint style guide to every machine, assembly step and recipe. You can craft another from a book, a screwdriver and a copper ingot, and you get the screwdriver back.
Works with
- Simple Books (optional) for the in-game manual.
- Much More Storage. Worktops share the
c:worktopstag, so either mod's worktops fit either mod's machines and cabinets. With Much More Storage installed, its wood and concrete worktops are used instead of the Simple Machines ones. Neither mod needs the other. - Any screwdriver tagged
c:tools/screwdriverbuilds machines. - JEI and EMI show the crafting recipes, and JEI has a page for every machine.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.1 to 26.1.2
- NeoForge, or Fabric with Fabric API
- Simple Books is optional
