Quick answer
Which Hexxit Gear release should I use?
Hexxit Gear-1.12.2-2.8.0.jar targets 1.12.2. The project page does not say whether this file belongs on the client, dedicated server, or both. 1 required mod needs a matching file.
Where it goes
Is Hexxit Gear required on the client, server, or both?
The project page does not say whether this file belongs on the client, dedicated server, or both.
The source does not explicitly classify this release as client-only or server-only.
What else does Hexxit Gear-1.12.2-2.8.0.jar need?
Hexxit Gear-1.12.2-2.8.0.jar. Change the file and its required mods may change too.
Install Placebo first, but 1 required mod has no matching file for this setup. Do not mix loader builds to force a match.
We only count dependency files that match this setup. A file for another loader does not fill the gap.

The mod currently adds four armor sets, the Hexbiscus, and two crafting items.
To create these armor sets, you must scour the world for Hexbiscuses, and use the Hexical Essence dropped by these to craft Hexical Diamonds. From these new diamonds, you can forge powerful new armor!
Wearing a full set of armor grants buffs and access to certain abilities. Each armor set has the same defense as diamond armor.
Passive Buffs:
- All Sets: Night Vision
- Tribal: Haste II and Jump Boost III
- Thief: Luck II and Speed III
- Scale: Slowness, Resistance II, and Health Boost V
- Sage: Fire Resistance, Water Breathing, and Absorption III (refreshes every 25s)
Abilities:
- Tribal (Rampage): Gain strength, speed, and regen, while slowing nearby entities.
- Thief (Stealth): Gain invisibility, slowness, and high strength. Ends upon attacking.
- Scale (Titanic Shielding): Become invulnerable for a short time.
- Sage (Arcane Rising): Throw entities in front of you far into the air.
