About this project
What does Localized Chat add?

Description
Localized Chat limits the range a player can talk and be heard VIA TEXT CHAT. Most chats on a server are between players that are local to each others.
This pairs really well with Simple Voice Chat by henkelmax.
* Fabric versions require Fabric API and Cloth Config
5.4.0 and newer (Minecraft 1.21.1 and 1.21.4)
Every comms path this mod owns is a channel. Each channel has an on/off switch, a range, and an optional cost.
| Channel | How you use it | Default range | Default cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| talk | normal chat, no command | 100 | none |
| shout | /shout /s /sh | 400 | 1 hunger |
| whisper | /me | 100 | none |
| tell | /tell /msg /w | unlimited | none |
Range is Manhattan blocks: |dx| + |dy| + |dz|.
- -1 = unlimited
- 0 = only you hear talk/shout/me; tell reaches nobody
- Same dimension unless the range is unlimited or the sender is an exempt operator
Costs can be none, hp (half-hearts), hunger (food points), xp (experience points, not levels), any combo of those, or all. If the player cannot pay every selected resource, nothing is taken and the message does not go out.
opAsPlayer is still the operator override.
- false (default): ops skip costs and everyone hears them
- true: ops pay and obey range like everyone else
extra_commands can tax or disable other root commands (home, rtp, warp, whatever). Format:
command|enabled|cost_type|hp|hunger|xp
Shorthand home means enabled with no cost. No leading slash. Only the root command matches. talk / shout / me / tell stay in the channel sections above.
Prefix, range notifier, and color codes are still there.
Older lines (1.20.1 and below) keep the old setup: local talk, shout with a hunger cost, and not much else. Do not drop a 1.20.1 config onto 5.4.0 and expect it to remap itself.
Older versions
Shout exists on 1.20.1 and newer for Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge. Builds before that do not have shout.
Compatibility
This mod is not compatible with other chat mods such as Discord chat integration or the FTB Utilities chat.
1.19.x chat reporting used to break this mod. That note applied to the old 1.19 line. 1.20.1 and the 5.4.0 1.21.1 / 1.21.4 builds are the supported current line.

Sides
Not required on client side, but if there you can use it in LAN parties.
Modpacks/Rehosting
No need to ask, just add. A link back to this page would be nice but is not required. MCBBS is the only authorized place for rehosting as they actually link back here and they download links go to Curse.
