Fantasy Mounts

Fantasy Mounts brings creatures of legend to your Minecraft world, to find, tame, breed and ride. My wife and I made it on our adventures because we wanted to ride a horse together. That became the Unicorn, and the mod grew from there.

2.0 is here: 20 new mounts, Minecraft 1.20.1 to 26.3 on Forge, NeoForge, Fabric and Quilt, and from November, new mounts every week.

The mounts

On the ground: Unicorn, Polar Bear, Doom Horse, War Mammoth, Frost Sabrecat, Crystal Stag, Qilin (it leaps again in mid-air, on clouds), Kitsune, Moonwolf, Mossback Treant (three riders in its branches), Warhorn Rhino (archers in its howdah) and Jackalope.

In the air: Pegasus, Griffin, Phoenix (its wings whip up a flame tornado), Luna Moth (only under the moon), Sky Whale (six riders on its deck), Emerald Dragonfly (the fastest flyer) and Nimbus Ram (it floats on a cloud and makes it rain).

In water: Dragon Turtle and Tide Narwhal.

Up walls: Giant Spider.

Features

• Ride together. Mounts carry one to six riders, each with their own seat.
• Abilities. Frost walking, fire breath, rebirth, a war mammoth's archer seat, foxfire, moon dust and many more.
• Mounts grow with you. A tamed mount levels up as you ride it, fight beside it and keep it near you. Each level brings a skill point for its own skill tree, with new abilities and new ways to move, from climbing walls to gliding. A Renewal Tonic resets the tree.
• Shiny forms. Very rarely a mount is shiny, with new colours, glowing details and a sparkling aura.
• Gear and breeding. Saddles, armour and saddlebags, coat variants and markings, rolled stats and breeding.
• Quests and the Riders Encyclopedia. Meeting a mount fills in its entry, with where it lives and how to tame it.
• 16 languages.
• Yours to tune. Mounts, spawns, stats and skill trees can be changed with data packs, and server owners can cap flight, riders and abilities in the config.

Pick the file for your Minecraft version and loader in the Files tab. On Fabric and Quilt, also install Fabric API and Forge Config API Port; Quilt runs the Fabric file. The mod is needed on both the client and the server.

Getting started

1. Put the file for your version and loader in your mods folder.
2. Explore. When you come across a mount, press J to open the Riders Encyclopedia: its entry tells you where it lives and how to tame it.
3. Once it's tamed, press K to see its stats, abilities and skill tree. A Mount Whistle calls it to follow you.

Coming from 1.x?

Version 1.1.1, for Minecraft 1.16.5 on Forge, stays in the Files tab, but new mounts only come to 2.0 and later. Unicorns and polar bears tamed in 1.x come along to 2.0, coats and markings included: open the world with 2.0 on Minecraft 1.20.1 or newer. As before any update, back the world up first.

Update check

Now and then (at most about twice a day) the game asks fantasymounts.com whether a newer Fantasy Mounts is out for your Minecraft version and loader, and tells you on the title screen or in your own world, never on someone else's server. A dedicated server writes one line in its log instead. The request carries only the mod's version (your IP address reaches the website, as with any download); nothing is downloaded or run. Turn it off with check = false under [updates] in config/fantasy-client.toml, or for a server in the world's serverconfig/fantasy-server.toml. Details: https://fantasymounts.com/privacy/
