About this project

What does Volcanic Caverns add?

Volcanic Caverns is a Forge mod that simply adds new lava filled caves that generate in the overworld, near the bottom of the world. It's no surprise that the caves prior to 1.18 are not too interesting and generate the same at any y level, so I thought some lava-flooded caves at the bottom of the world could make exploration and mining at this level much more interesting.

The following world gen features will also generate around the height of the caverns:

  • Lava falls
  • Lava pools
  • Magma blocks
  • Smooth basalt veins
  • Basalt spikes
  • Basalt pillars
  • Coal ore below Y -40 (which is not normally found at this height)
  • Additional small diamond ore below Y -32

All of the features can be configured using a datapack. The caves are added to any biomes with the "overworld" forge biome dictionary tag, and consequently will generate in any dimension in biomes with this tag. If the caves are suddenly cut off between some biomes in any dimension, it means one of the biomes does not have the "overworld" biome tag, so go and pester the mod author of that biome mod and not me. This has been known to happen with datapack biomes. Yes, the lavafalls could initially cause lag as the lava flows down.
