About this project

What does Enchanting Information add?

Enchanting Information

Enchanting Information is a lightweight, server-side Fabric mod that shows complete enchantment data for any enchanted item or enchanted book in a paginated in-game book. It is installed on the server only. Players join with an unmodified vanilla client and need no mods, resource packs, or configuration.

Supported Minecraft versions: 1.21 through 1.21.11 (Java 21), 26.1 through 26.1.2 (Java 25), 26.2 (Java 25), 26.3 (Java 25). Requires Fabric Loader and Fabric API.

What the mod does

Enchantment profiles. Right-click an enchanted book to open a multi-page virtual written book with full statistics for every enchantment on the item: held level, maximum level, rarity and weight, item category, source mod and registry ID, description, obtainment sources (enchanting table, villager trade, treasure loot, curses, random loot, mob equipment), enchanting-table level costs, the full list of applicable items, and every conflicting enchantment. The data is read from the live server registries, so modded enchantments and data-pack tags are supported automatically. Description text is sent as a translation key with an English fallback (43 vanilla enchantments have bundled descriptions), so clients that use a language pack or the Enchantment Descriptions resource see their own localized text.

Enchanted tools, weapons, and armor. These items have a normal right-click action in combat, so their profile requires sneak + right-click. This prevents the book from opening while fighting mobs, blocking with a shield, or otherwise using the item.

Compatibility scanner. Sneak + right-click while holding a target item in the main hand and an enchanted book in the off-hand to open a compatibility report: the resulting level after combining, whether the item supports each enchantment, existing conflicts with enchantments already on the item, and the estimated anvil cost in levels.

Optional enchanted-book lore. When enabled in the config, enchanted books get an extra lore line per enchantment showing its level, maximum level, rarity, and enchanting cost range.

Server performance and privacy. The mod writes one line to the server log at startup and nothing afterwards. Per-use logging is fully disabled by default and can only be turned on with the enable_debug_logging config option.

Installation

  1. Install Fabric Loader for your Minecraft version on the server.
  2. Put Fabric API and the matching Enchanting Information jar in the server mods folder:
    • 1.21 - 1.21.11: Java 21 build
    • 26.1 - 26.1.2, 26.2, 26.3: Java 25 builds
  3. Start the server once so config/enchanting_info.json is generated, then adjust it if needed and restart.
  4. Clients need nothing installed and join normally.

How to use

  • Hold an enchanted book and right-click: opens the enchantment profile book.
  • Hold an enchanted tool, weapon, or armor piece and sneak + right-click: opens the enchantment profile book.
  • Hold the item to upgrade in the main hand and an enchanted book in the off-hand, then sneak + right-click: opens the compatibility scan.
  • Turn pages in the virtual book to move through the sections listed below. Your real held item is never modified or replaced.

Book sections

Each enchantment profile contains the following pages: a title page with the item name and enchantment count; an overview page with held level, maximum level, rarity, weight, and category; a registry page with source mod, registry ID, and description key; a description page; an obtainment page covering enchanting table, villager trade, treasure status, curse status, random loot, and mob equipment (with a double-price warning for treasure enchantments when enabled); enchanting-table level cost pages; applicable item pages; and conflict pages.

Configuration

All settings live in config/enchanting_info.json on the server and take effect on restart:

Option Default Description
enable_book_info true Enables opening enchantment profile books.
enable_compatibility_scanner true Enables the sneak + right-click compatibility scan with an enchanted book in the off-hand.
enable_lore_tooltips false Adds generated lore lines with enchantment statistics to enchanted books.
restrict_to_ops_only false When true, only server operators can open profiles and scans. Other players see a warning message.
double_treasure_villager_price_alert true Shows a double-price warning in the obtainment section for treasure enchantments.
enable_debug_logging false When true, writes per-use diagnostic lines to the server log. Keep off unless troubleshooting.

Commands

The mod adds no commands and no permissions beyond the restrict_to_ops_only config option. Everything is triggered with right-click gestures described above.

Technical notes

The book interface is server-driven: the server briefly swaps a virtual written book into the interaction slot, opens it, and restores the real item, all through standard clientbound packets. There are no client entrypoints, no mixins, and no custom screens or rendering, which is why vanilla clients work unchanged. The jar is roughly 32-35 KB with no dependencies beyond Fabric Loader and Fabric API. License: CC0-1.0.
