Provides a hip slot for your illuminated mining needs! Requires a dynamic lights mod.
This page is having a moment, so a few details may be a little behind.
Quick answer
Which Curious Lanterns release should I use?
Curious Lanterns curiouslanterns-1.18.2-1.3.7.jar targets 1.18.2 with Forge. The project page does not say whether it belongs on the client. The project page does not say whether it belongs on the dedicated server. 1 required mod needs a matching file.
Where it goes
Is Curious Lanterns required on the client, server, or both?

The source does not explicitly classify this release as client-only or server-only.
What else does Curious Lanterns curiouslanterns-1.18.2-1.3.7.jar need?
curiouslanterns-1.18.2-1.3.7.jar. Change the file and its required mods may change too.

About this project
What does Curious Lanterns add?
This mod adds a Hip curio slot and allows both the Lantern and Soul Lantern to be placed in it.
For hip lantern swinging, enable it via the client config file in the config folder.
As of 1.3.1, the lantern uses the Belt curio slot.
Spare belt slots must be manually added using the common config file.
As of Minecraft 1.20.1, Curio's has removed the ability to change slot counts without the use of Datapacks. As such, the common config file will not longer be present. My apologies.
Requires Curios (Forge) and Radiant Gear (including a dynamic lights mod, see Radiant Gear for info).
This mod does not add dynamic lighting on its own.
Radiant Gear does this, so please refer to that mod for dynamic lighting.
This mod only adds a curio slot for the lantern, Radiant Gear handles everything else.
Lucent supports native dynamic lighting for both vanilla and modded lanterns.
Those who use other dynamic light mods may need to edit the dynamic lighting mod's config file and add the lantern items manually. Warning
As of now, Lucent does not work with Ars Nouveau. Attempting to use both will result in no block lighting. This is not an issue with Curious Lanterns, it is a problem with Lucent and Ars Nouveau.
This is because Ars Nouveau adds its own Dynamic Lights rendering, resulting in conflict and rendering errors.
Compatible Mods
- Supplementaries + Squared
- Cyclic
- Quark
- Additional Lanterns
- Macaw's Lights and Lamps
- Skinned Lanterns
- Hardcore Torches
- Chipped
More compatibilities will be added as they arise. Note: I will only include compatibilities if they are relatively easy and clean to implement.
I made this specifically because I was tired of holding torches in my off-hand when caving and accidentally placing them everywhere, plus the idea of having a lantern on your hip is very aesthetically pleasing. I could have done this with a datapack, and I'm sure it's already been done in some way, but I've never worked with API's before and I wanted to give it a shot. Since this is already a mod, I do intend on adding some more functions later on, such as toggling on and off the lantern, but when or if I actually get to this is up in the air. Don't expect much.
Before it's asked, I do plan on updating this to later versions as they come out, as long as its parent mods are kept up with. I cannot do a backport, Radiant Gear does not have previous versions. I do not intend on making a fabric version, as fabric is out of my expertise, and I don't have the patience to figure it out. My apologies.
