Final Time
Your pet died. They never really left. Craft a Lens to see them, paper to free them, or an enchanted golden apple to bring them back. But if you are the one who killed them, they remember - and they will come for you.

About this project
What does Final Time add?
Final Time
Your pet died. They are still there.
Wolves and cats that die while tamed do not disappear. They come back as ghosts - invisible, silent, and still following you. They protect you. They fight for you. They wait.
You just cannot see them. Not without a Lens.
THE LENS
Craft a Lens from two iron ingots and a glass pane. Wear it on your head, or hold it in your offhand, and the ghosts fade into view - translucent, drifting, unmistakably there.
A Lens wears out with use. Let it run down and it cracks into a Cracked Lens. It still works, but the ghosts are fainter and you cannot see as far.
The answer is the Soul Lens. Smelt soul sand and you get one. It never breaks, it reaches twice as far, and it lets you see your pets through solid walls.
WHAT YOUR PET CAN DO
Ghost pets are not decoration.
- They follow you
- They defend you from anything that attacks you
- They hit hard enough to kill any mob in one blow
- They cast no shadow
- They never catch fire
- They are silent unless someone wearing a Lens is nearby
LETTING GO
Right-click a ghost with paper and the soul is released.
What follows takes a few seconds. A ring of light draws itself on the ground, gold dust spirals upward, the air fills with sound, and then your pet comes apart into a burst of light and is gone.
BRINGING THEM BACK
Right-click a ghost with an enchanted golden apple and the ritual runs in reverse. A column of golden light rises out of the ground, motes pour inward, hearts climb, and your pet steps back into the world - alive, and wearing everything they had on when they died.
IF YOU KILLED THEM
This is the part worth paying attention to.
If your pet dies and the killing blow was yours, they remember.
A countdown begins. You get thirty seconds, and every one of them is counted down on your screen. Under ten seconds the timer starts to shake.
Free the soul in time and it stops.
Let the countdown reach zero and the world itself starts to shake. When they reach you, you are not killed. You are taken. You wake in a grey place with no bedrock floor, stripped to adventure mode. Dig your way out through the concrete and you go home. Do not dig out, and you stay.
IF SOMEONE ELSE KILLED THEM
No countdown. No warning. No way out.
Whoever killed your pet gets one message telling them something is on its way. Then it is.
When it reaches them they are taken to the same grey place, but this time there is no digging. Adventure mode, and no block in the world can be broken. Five seconds later they die - and only then does the game hand survival back.
THE DEATH BOOK
Right-click a ghost with a book and it becomes a written book recording exactly how they died.
The story is different every time. Twelve causes are tracked: killed by their owner, killed by another player, killed by a mob, lava, fire, falling, drowning, explosions, the void, magic, starvation, or unknown. A ghost that drowned gets a different page than one that burned. A ghost killed by a named player has that name written into the story.

NOTES
Ghost visibility is decided per client. Two players standing beside the same ghost can disagree about whether it is there - that is intentional, and it means the mod behaves correctly on servers rather than only in single player.
