About this project

What does (ST) Graves add?

🪦 ST Graves

A death-grave system that just works — no config, no clutter, nothing lost.

⚠️ Not compatible with Survival Tweaks — the full Survival Tweaks already includes this Graves module. Use one or the other, never both.

ST Graves is a standalone datapack that replaces vanilla's items-scatter-everywhere death with something sturdier: your gear waits for you, safe, right where you died.

💀 How it works

When you die:

  • A 3D tombstone appears where you fell, holding everything — hotbar, inventory, armor and offhand — in one place. A glowing sign floats above it with your name, the day you died, the grave number and how many stacks it still holds.
  • You get a compass pointing straight back to it (a one-time target, not a lodestone), and the chat tells you the grave number, its coordinates and the dimension. Lost the compass? [My graves] in the menu gives it back.
  • Right-click the tombstone and every item goes back to its own slot, with your XP. Whatever doesn't fit stays in the grave and the compass comes back, so nothing is ever dropped or lost.
  • Only you can open your own grave. Die with nothing to carry and no grave is made.

🎨 It looks like where you died

27 tombstone styles follow the place: Overworld biomes, caves, the sea floor (sea pickles instead of candles — no fire underwater), every Nether biome and the End.

🛡️ Built to last

The items live in the world data, not in the tombstone, so there's nothing to blow up, burn or despawn. Fire, lava, TNT and creepers can't take your loot. Once a grave is emptied it removes itself — no leftovers, no cleanup.

  • Graves never float — mine, burn or wash away the block under a tombstone and it drops until it stands on solid ground again.
  • Works with immediate_respawn (doImmediateRespawn before 1.21.11) — the grave goes where you died, not where you respawn.

⚙️ In-game menu

No config file. Tap [Open the menu] when the pack loads, or run /trigger stg_menu set 1 any time:

  • A clickable switch turns graves on or off for the server, no permissions required.
  • [My graves] lists where each of your graves is — number, coordinates, dimension and stacks left — with a [Get compass] button for each one.

Ops can also use /function st_graves:admin/grave_on / grave_off.

🔧 Installation

  1. Download the file for your Minecraft version: 1.21 → 1.21.3, 1.21.4, 1.21.5 → 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1 → 26.2 or 26.3
  2. Drop the .zip into .minecraft/saves/<your world>/datapacks/
  3. Run /reload
  4. For the tombstone model, install Capupack 1.2.1 (the same zip also works as the resource pack part).

Works standalone as a datapack — its namespace (st_graves) is entirely its own, so it installs cleanly next to other datapacks. The one exception is Survival Tweaks: it already has the same Graves module, so don't run both on the same world. Without the resource pack the tombstone shows as a plain wall block, but it works exactly the same.

Compatible with 1.21 through 26.3 (six downloads, one per Minecraft range). English-only interface.

💚 Part of something bigger

Made by the same people behind Survival Tweaks — a bigger pack that already includes this Graves module, plus a mob radar and more quality-of-life features. Want graves on their own? Use ST Graves. Want everything in one pack? Use Survival Tweaks. Just not both.
