About this project

What does (Fake) Hardcore add?

(Fake) Hardcore

(Fake) Hardcore is a server-side Fabric mod that makes multiplayer Hardcore worlds more manageable without removing the consequences of death.

When a player dies, their death is intercepted and they are locked in Spectator Mode at their death location. An operator or authorized staff member can later bring them back using /revive <player>.

Perfect for survival servers that want the tension of Hardcore while still allowing players to earn a second chance.

Features

⚰️ Hardcore Death System

When a player dies without a Totem of Undying, they are marked as dead and switched to Spectator Mode.

Their death status persists when they disconnect, reconnect, or when the server restarts.

👁️ Spectator Lock

Dead players are locked in Spectator Mode at their death location. They cannot fly away, interact with the world, or switch themselves back to another game mode.

🧠 Player Revival

Authorized users can revive a dead player with:
/revive <player>
The revived player is returned to Survival Mode and teleported to the Overworld spawn.

🔐 Permission Manager Support

Access to /revive is checked through the Fabric Permissions API. This allows compatible permission manager mods, such as LuckPerms, to control who can use the command.

Permission node:

hardcorerevive.command.revive

This mod does not directly integrate with or depend on the LuckPerms API. Without a compatible permission manager installed, server operators and the server console can use the command by default.

🎒 Vanilla Inventory and XP Behaviour

The mod respects the keepInventory game rule:

  • With keepInventory disabled, the player's inventory and experience are dropped.
  • With keepInventory enabled, the player keeps their inventory and experience.

🗿 Totem of Undying Support

Totems continue to work normally. A player is only marked as dead if the Totem does not prevent their death.

🔊 Global Death Effect

When a player dies, a thunder sound is played for everyone on the server to make the event impossible to miss.

💬 Death Messages

The player's vanilla death message is broadcast to the server, including the cause of death. The mod respects the showDeathMessages game rule.

⚙️ Fully Server-Side

Only the server needs to install the mod. Players can join without installing anything on their client.

Compatibility

  • ✅ Minecraft 26.1 and 26.2
