About this project
What does Phantom Loot add?
Phantom Loot
Phantom Loot is a lightweight server-side Fabric mod that gives every player their own independent loot inventory for each lootable container position. Loot is generated from the container's loot table, stored per player, and persists across restarts. Players only need a vanilla client. Nothing has to be installed on the client.
What the mod does
When a player opens a container that has a loot table, Phantom Loot intercepts the interaction and shows a virtual inventory instead of the shared physical one:
- Per-player virtual loot: each player receives a separate inventory for the same container position. One player's loot never affects another player's loot.
- Loot table integration: contents are generated from the container's assigned loot table and loot table seed, so datapacks and world generation work without any extra setup.
- Supported containers: single chests, double chests, barrels, shulker boxes, and hoppers. Double chests are combined into one virtual inventory with the correct left/right ordering.
- Physical validation: chests that are blocked cannot be opened, and shulker boxes whose lid has no room to open cannot be opened, matching vanilla behavior.
- Deterministic seeding: loot is rolled with a seed derived from the player UUID, the dimension, the container position, and the loot table, so a player's roll is stable for their stored loot.
- Asynchronous generation: loot rolls run on virtual threads so the server thread is never blocked while generating.
- Persistent storage: generated loot is saved per player and per container position in the server's saved data and survives server restarts. Any change made inside the virtual inventory is written back to that player's stored loot.
- Automatic expiration: stored loot expires after 30 days without access, and expired entries are pruned about once per hour.
- Range validation: the virtual inventory stays open only while the player is in the same level, is still connected, and is within 8 blocks of the container.
- Vanilla side effects: opening chests, barrels, and shulker boxes still awards the normal open statistics and still angers nearby piglins where vanilla does so.
- Zero dependencies: the mod uses only Fabric Loader and vanilla mappings. No Fabric API is required, and no client-side files are needed.
Containers without a loot table are not intercepted and behave exactly like vanilla.

Download the file whose Minecraft version matches your server. All files share the mod version 1.0.0.
Installation
- Install Fabric Loader for your Minecraft version on the server.
- Place the matching Phantom Loot jar file into the server's
modsfolder. - Start or restart the server. No configuration step is required.
- Players join with a normal vanilla client. No mod installation is needed on the client.
To use the mod in game, assign loot tables to containers through datapacks or world generation, then open the container normally. The first time a player opens a container position, their loot is generated. Reopening the same position shows their saved contents until it expires.
Configuration
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Configuration file | There is no configuration file. All behavior is automatic and there is nothing to configure. |
| Storage location | Loot is stored in the server's saved data under the key phantomloot_phantom_loot and is saved by the normal server save cycle. |
| Expiration | Stored loot expires after 30 days without access. Expired entries are removed by an hourly prune. These values are fixed. |
Commands
| Command | Description |
|---|---|
| None | Phantom Loot adds no commands and no permissions. Opening a loot container is the entire interface. |
Requirements
- Fabric Loader (see the table above for the minimum version per Minecraft version)
- A Java version supported by the target Minecraft version
- A dedicated or integrated server environment. The mod is marked server-side only.
