Where it goes

Is LeashAll required on the client, server, or both?

Installation on the client is optional. Installation on the dedicated server is optional.

Client Optional
Dedicated server Optional
Loader for this release NeoForge
Required install it here Optional supported, not mandatory Not supported do not install here Source doesn’t say do not assume

The source marks this as usable on both the client and server.

What else does LeashAll 1.5.1 need?

1.5.1. Change the file and its required mods may change too.

All 1 required mods have matching files

Install Architectury API first. We found matching files for this game-version and loader setup.

We only count dependency files that match this setup. A file for another loader does not fill the gap.

About this project

What does LeashAll add?

JOIN OUR DISCORD CURSEFORGE

Turns the regular lead into a universal leash you can use on almost any animal, mob, or player in the game. It removes most vanilla restrictions, so you can lead creatures that were previously unleashable and easily move them around your world.

Leashed the ghast

Server-side mod, client optional — vanilla clients can join and play, and nothing is gated behind having it. The client only adds visuals: LeashAll can leash things vanilla has no rendering for (players, boats, minecarts, the ender dragon). With the mod you see a proper sagging rope; without it the server traces the same rope with particles. Leashes on regular mobs look identical either way. Works in singleplayer — just drop it in your mods folder.

Dependencies: Fabric needs Fabric API and Architectury API. NeoForge needs Architectury API. Forge needs no additional dependencies.

Free to use in any modpack — public or private, no permission needed.

What it does

  • Leash Anything — right-click an animal, mob, or player with a lead to leash it to yourself. Works on almost all vanilla creatures.
  • Chain Creatures Together — with creatures already leashed to you, sneak + right-click another creature to attach them to it instead. No extra lead needed.
  • Take the Leash Back — right-click a creature leashed to another mob to move the leash back to yourself. A lead in hand is optional.
  • Detach with an Empty Hand — right-click a creature leashed to you with an empty hand to remove the leash.

Configuration

The config is per world and read when the world loads; edit it, then restart the server or re-enter the world. There is no in-game screen and no client config — every option is server-authoritative. The file format is the same on Fabric, Forge, and NeoForge.

  • Dedicated server: <server>/world/serverconfig/leashall-server.toml
  • Singleplayer: .minecraft/saves/<world>/serverconfig/leashall-server.toml
  • Pack default for every new world: defaultconfigs/leashall-server.toml

Options

  • useEntityAllowList — false (default): every entity is allowed unless it is in blockedEntities. true: only entities in allowedEntities can be leashed.
  • allowedEntities — entity ids or tags to allow.
  • blockedEntities — entity ids or tags to block.
  • maxLeashesPerPlayer — how many entities one player can hold at once; -1 (default) is unlimited.
  • disableLeashBreak — false (default): entities moved by LeashAll's own follow logic (slimes, ghasts, allays, the ender dragon, boats, minecarts, players) drop the leash when the holder gets too far away. true: they never break by distance. Regular vanilla-leashable mobs are unaffected either way.

How the rules work

  • Entries can be ids (minecraft:ghast, examplemod:custom_beast) or tags (#minecraft:raiders, #c:bosses).
  • blockedEntities is checked first and always wins, even over allowedEntities.
  • allowedEntities only matters when useEntityAllowList = true.
  • maxLeashesPerPlayer counts across all dimensions. Entities you already hold never count against you, so you can always detach or re-attach them at the cap.
  • Invalid entries (typos, missing tags, ids from mods that aren't installed) are skipped with a warning. Unknown keys or bad values fall back to defaults and log a warning. On Fabric, a broken file is backed up as leashall-server.toml.bak before being rewritten.
  • New options from updates are appended to your existing file with defaults — no need to delete it.

Useful entity ids

  • minecraft:player — block it to turn off leashing other players (a common choice on public servers).
  • minecraft:ender_dragon — block it for a vanilla-feel End fight.
  • Boats and minecarts are ordinary ids too; boat ids are per wood type, so a tag is usually easier.

Examples

Allow everything except wardens and ghasts:

useEntityAllowList = false
allowedEntities = []
blockedEntities = ["minecraft:warden", "minecraft:ghast"]
maxLeashesPerPlayer = -1

Allow only villagers, iron golems, and raiders:

useEntityAllowList = true
allowedEntities = ["minecraft:villager", "minecraft:iron_golem", "#minecraft:raiders"]
blockedEntities = []
maxLeashesPerPlayer = -1

Public server: no players or bosses, 10 leashes per player:

useEntityAllowList = false
allowedEntities = []
blockedEntities = ["minecraft:player", "minecraft:warden", "minecraft:ender_dragon"]
maxLeashesPerPlayer = 10
disableLeashBreak = false

Adventure map: leashes that never break by distance:

useEntityAllowList = false
allowedEntities = []
blockedEntities = []
maxLeashesPerPlayer = -1
disableLeashBreak = true
