About this project

What does Backported Spears add?

Note: Porting this mod to older versions will take a while! This is because of how the original spear code is written. It needs to be completely rewritten for versions before 1.21 for it to even work!

This mod attempts to accurately backport the spears added in the upcoming Mounts of Mayhem update. From the spears themselves, to technical changes that came with them.

I am aware that some of the animations here are not 1:1 with the official ones, but I will likely update them to be more accurate when Mounts of Mayhem releases

Compatibility:

-Resource packs for 1.21.11 that change the texture, sound effects or localization of spears will also work here

-Datapacks that use item components added by 1.21.11 will likely work as long as this mod in installed

-Better Combat: overrides the spear animation this mod adds for the spears

Config:

-spear_charge_attacks: allows spears to perform their right-click charge ability (true by default)

-spear_stabbing_animation: makes spears play different attack animation (true by default, false if Better Combat is installed)

-tridents_use_spear_attack_animation: makes tridents also use the spear stabbing animation (false by default)

Miscellaneous:

Advancements:

-Mob Kabob: Hit five mobs with any spear in one charge attack

Enchantments:

-Lunge: Spears propel the user forward

Technical Changes:

-"piercing_weapon", "kinetic_weapon", "use_effects", "swing_animation", "attack_range" and "minimum_attack_charge" item components have been backported

-"post_piercing_attack" enchantment component have been backported

-"apply_impulse" and "apply_exhaustion" enchantment effects have been backported

-"spear_mobs" advancement criterion have been backported
