About this project
What does Random Block Drops add?
⛏️ What is this?
Break any block and it can drop pretty much anything in the game — not just what that block normally gives. Mine dirt and you might walk away with a diamond sword. Mine stone and maybe you get an elytra. It's loot-box mining.
Mobs still drop their normal vanilla loot — this only touches blocks.
🎲 How the odds work
There are 367 possible drops on 1.21 – 26.2 (361 on 1.20.x, 353 on 1.16 – 1.19, and 452 on 26.3, which adds the new Wilderness Bound items like poplar wood, cushions, straw beds and wool/concrete stairs and slabs), from common stuff (sticks, seeds, wool) all the way up to legendary (elytra, dragon egg, nether star). The rarer the block, the better your odds:
| Block type | Good luck? |
|---|---|
| Dirt, sand, gravel, leaves | Mostly basic stuff |
| Stone, wood, cobblestone | A bit better |
| Coal, iron, redstone, copper | Now we're talking |
| Gold ore | Pretty good odds |
| Diamond, emerald, ancient debris | Coin flip on something great |
Silk Touch doesn't stop this — that's on purpose.
🍀 Fortune makes you luckier (new in 3.0)
The Fortune enchantment on the tool you mine with now improves your drops. Every level shifts the odds towards rare, epic and legendary items, and away from common ones. The pool of items itself never changes — only how likely each rarity is.
Example, mining a diamond-tier block (diamond, emerald, ancient debris) on 1.21 – 26.2:
| Tool | Legendary drop | Epic or legendary |
|---|---|---|
| No Fortune | 1 in 49 | 1 in 7 |
| Fortune I | 1 in 35 | 1 in 6 |
| Fortune II | 1 in 25 | 1 in 5 |
| Fortune III | 1 in 19 | 1 in 4 |
It works on every block, not just ores — a Fortune III pickaxe on plain dirt takes a legendary from about 1 in 7,000 to about 1 in 1,250. Mining with your bare hand or a tool without Fortune works exactly like before. You still get exactly one item per block.
🏆 Achievements
24 custom advancements to chase: full armor and tool sets (iron, gold, diamond, netherite — plus chainmail), all 6 mob heads, all the music discs in the loot pool, beating the Wither and the Ender Dragon with the pack turned on, and getting your hands on a legendary drop — or all five of them. New in 3.0: Fortune Hunter, for collecting coal, redstone, lapis lazuli, nether quartz, a diamond and an emerald — the six drops Fortune is made for.
✅ Compatibility
The pack comes in two files — grab the one that matches your Minecraft version:
- 1.16.x – 1.19.x →
random_block_drops_1_16x_1_19x_v3_0.zip - 1.20.x – 26.3 (including 1.21.x, 26.1 and 26.2) →
random_block_drops_3_0.zip
Each file switches versions automatically behind the scenes, so you don't have to think about it beyond picking the right one. On some older versions Minecraft may show a "made for a different version" warning — it's just a label, the pack works normally. Snapshots and pre-releases aren't officially supported.
Coming from 2.x? Version 2.3 and earlier covered 1.19.x in the main file. From 3.0 on, 1.19.x is handled by the 1.16 – 1.19 file, and the main file starts at 1.20.
📥 Install
Drop the .zip into your world's datapacks/ folder (no need to unzip it), then run /reload or restart the world. You'll get a chat message confirming it's active. Updating? Delete the old version from that folder first.
