About this project

What does ore yield add?

Ore Yield

⚠️ Important — Client Requirement

Ore Yield is client-optional by default and can normally be installed only on the server.

However, every player must also install the matching Ore Yield version on their client if either of these settings is enabled or if you want advancments to work properly (I do not know how to make them server-side only):

generator_tracking_blocks_enabled = true
enable_anti_cheese_mechanics = true
enable_mineral_pockets = true (works without it installed on clients, but message about discovery of pockets are not readable and display generic code)

These options use custom marker blocks that Minecraft must synchronize with connected clients.

Leave both settings set to false to keep Ore Yield client-optional.

The Stone Generator itself does NOT require Ore Yield on clients when Generator Tracking Blocks are disabled — it will simply generate normal vanilla host blocks.

After changing either tracking setting, restart the server and all modded clients.

Anti-Cheese Mechanics are disabled by default in 1.2.1 and newer. They were enabled by default in 1.2.0.

Vanilla Ore Generation

Vanilla ore removal is disabled by default.

With the default configuration, vanilla ores continue generating normally and stone-like blocks can provide Ore Yield drops.

This can be changed through the config file or configuration screen.

When vanilla or compatible ore generation removal is enabled, it affects newly generated chunks only. Existing chunks and already-generated ore blocks are not removed.

Ore Yield adds a configurable probability-based mining system to Minecraft.

Instead of relying only on visible ore veins, mining ordinary stone-like blocks can reward ores according to configurable chances, Y-levels, dimensions, mining requirements, and host blocks.

Each configured ore performs its own drop check when an eligible block is broken. The built-in Bad Luck Eliminator can additionally prevent extremely long unlucky streaks.

Ore Yield is designed for normal survival worlds, modpacks, and servers, with extensive configuration for both simple and heavily customized setups.

Supported Loaders and Versions

Loader Supported Minecraft Versions
Forge 1.20.1
Fabric 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2
NeoForge 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2

How It Works

  1. Mine a supported host block such as Stone, Deepslate, Tuff, Netherrack, Blackstone, and more.
  2. Every configured ore checks its configured drop chance.
  3. Successful rolls add the corresponding resource drops.
  4. Fortune is applied automatically where appropriate.
  5. Experience can be awarded for successful ore drops.
  6. The Bad Luck Eliminator can guarantee drops after sufficiently long unlucky streaks.
  7. Explore the End for a few surprises...

Stone Generator

Ore Yield includes a configurable Stone Generator, which is enabled by default.

It is crafted using eight diamonds surrounding one End Stone.

After its configured cooldown, the generator attempts to create a host block directly above itself:

  • Overworld: Stone
  • Nether: Netherrack
  • End: End Stone

It will never replace an occupied block.

The generator can be configured with:

  • Custom cooldown.
  • Ore Yield reward multiplier.
  • Generator Ore Yield enable/disable option.
  • Automation harvesting controls.
  • Explosion harvesting controls.
  • Custom recipe ingredients.
  • Generator Tracking Blocks.

The Stone Generator explicitly drops itself when mined with a Diamond or Netherite Pickaxe.

⚠️ Generator Tracking Warning

The normal Stone Generator remains compatible with server-side-only installations.

However, enabling:

generator_tracking_blocks_enabled = true

uses custom tracked marker blocks and therefore requires Ore Yield to be installed on every connecting client.

Keep this option disabled if you want clients to join without installing Ore Yield.

Rare Mineral Pockets

Rare Mineral Pockets are optional and disabled by default.

When enabled, they provide occasional large bonus resource drops after eligible block breaks.

Mineral Pockets:

  • Have independently configurable probabilities and reward amounts.
  • Support Coal, Metal, Precious, Gem, and Ancient categories.
  • Can select multiple installed resources for Metal and Gem pockets.
  • Do not use or advance the Bad Luck Eliminator.
  • Are not affected by Fortune.
  • Cannot be triggered by explosions.
  • Work in the Overworld.
  • Can optionally work in the End.
  • Are intentionally excluded from the Nether.
  • Can independently allow or disallow generator and automated harvesting.

Alternatively, the optional automatic compatibility system can scan for modded ores and stone blocks at startup.

Automatically detected ore entries are configurable and disabled by default.

A restart is required after changing automatic compatibility settings.

Dimension Support

Ore Yield can automatically detect additional dimensions installed by other mods.

Detected dimensions can use the Overworld ore set with the same:

  • Drop chances.
  • Y-level ranges.
  • Peak distribution.
  • Bad Luck Eliminator behaviour.

Automatically detected dimensions can also be manually removed or added through the configuration.

Curated dimensions such as those provided by the Aether family are handled separately by their dedicated compatibility configuration.

Configuration

The main configuration file is:

config/ore_yield.toml

Nearly every part of Ore Yield can be customized:

  • Enable or disable individual ores.
  • Configure ore drop chances.
  • Configure minimum and maximum drop counts.
  • Configure Y-level ranges.
  • Configure peak Y-level distribution.
  • Restrict ores to specific dimensions.
  • Select eligible host blocks.
  • Configure minimum pickaxe tiers.
  • Choose Fortune behaviour.
  • Configure XP rewards.
  • Add entirely new ores without writing code.
  • Configure additional supported dimensions.
  • Configure the Stone Generator.
  • Configure Generator Tracking.
  • Configure anti-cheese behaviour.
  • Configure Mineral Pockets.
  • Configure vanilla and compatible ore world generation removal.

Existing ore_yield.toml files are migrated automatically when new settings are introduced.

Configured values are preserved, while newly added settings and built-in ore sections can be added to the configuration. Custom ore sections and unrecognized legacy fields are retained.

Configuration Screens

Forge / NeoForge

Use the Ore Yield Config button available from the title screen.

Fabric

Install Mod Menu to access the Ore Yield configuration screen from the mod list.

Vanilla Ore Removal

remove_vanilla_ore_generation = false

is the default.

false

Vanilla ores continue generating normally, while eligible stone-like blocks can additionally provide Ore Yield drops.

true

Vanilla ore generation is removed and the Ore Yield stone-drop system becomes the primary way of obtaining those resources.

World generation removal affects new chunks only.

Existing chunks and already-generated ore blocks remain unchanged.

Compatible modded world generation can also be controlled separately.

Debug Tool

Press:

Alt + F12

in-game to generate an Ore Yield diagnostics report.

  • Registered ore blocks.
  • Configured ores.
  • Missing ores.
  • Detected modded ores.
  • Current configuration.

The report is written to:

ore_yield_debug.txt

in the game directory.
