About this project

What does Modular Backpacks add?

Attach it · Wear it · Show it off
Immersive Modular Backpacks
A backpack shouldn't be an invisible inventory slot you forget you're wearing.
Bolt on pouches, sacks, a toolstrap, or a lantern - extend your storage, light your way, or just show off your tools.
✔ Multiplayer synced 🔦 Working lantern light
Worn, not hidden. Attach something and you actually see it - on your character, in your hands, right there in the world. No hunting through the menu.
Build it your way. Slot on pouches, sacks, and straps; each one gives you more room to haul. Mix and match until the pack fits how you play.
More than decoration. Addons aren't just for show - a lantern lights your way, a toolstrap carries your tools.
Set it down. Place your pack as a block and it works like a chest - Ctrl + right-click to open it, right-click to pick the whole thing back up, addons and all.

3 × Toolstrap

Addons to bolt on
Pouch
Pouch
+3 slots
A small bag in its own right - wear it in a bag slot, or fit it to a backpack point to add its slots to the pack.
Sturdy pouch
Sturdy Pouch
+5 slots
A roomier pouch that fits the sturdy backpack's larger attachment points.
Tool strap
Tool Strap
Carries 1 tool
Holds a single tool. Fitted to a pack, the tool rides visibly on your back instead of vanishing into a slot.
Compatible with
Equus: Wild Horses - bags keep rendering on the seraph. For bags on horseback, add Modular Backpacks: Equus Compatibility.
Immersive Backpack Overhaul — its bags can't be attached to a backpack as addons.
Storage Tweaks — sort and stack work on a backpack, placed or worn. Tools stay on their toolstrap.
Roll-up bed — its mattresses strap to a sturdy backpack, just like the hay bed.
Player Model Library — bags and their addons render on custom player models, such as Rust Girls.

For modders
The attachment code here isn't tied to backpacks. I'm moving it into its own mod so other mods can build on it, and growing it into a full replacement for vanilla's attachment system.
Feedback and bug reports very welcome.
