Quick answer

Which Equus: Wild Horses 2.0 release should I use?

Updated yesterday
Latest stable file 1.0.3
Game version 1.22.0, 1.22.1, 1.22.2
Loader Built-in Vintage Story mod system

Equus: Wild Horses 2.0 1.0.3 targets 1.22.0, 1.22.1, 1.22.2. It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional. 1 required mod needs checking.

Where it goes

Is Equus: Wild Horses 2.0 required on the client, server, or both?

It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional.

Client Required
Dedicated server Optional
Loader for this release Built-in Vintage Story mod system
Required install it here Optional supported, not mandatory Not supported do not install here Source doesn’t say do not assume

This release supports both sides, but the source does not require it on the server.

What else does Equus: Wild Horses 2.0 1.0.3 need?

1.0.3. Change the file and its required mods may change too.

1 required mod needs checking

Install project 4069, Jaunt: Entity Movement System first. 1 required mod still needs checking for this exact setup.

Project 4069 Needed by Equus: Wild Horses 2.0 1.0.3
required
Still checking

We only count dependency files that match this setup. A file for another loader does not fill the gap.

Before you install it

Add Equus: Wild Horses 2.0 without breaking your instance.

Built for Equus: Wild Horses 2.0 1.0.3. Pick another file and the loader, install side or required mods may change.

  1. 01

    Stick to this file

Use 1.0.3. It targets 1.22.0, 1.22.1, 1.22.2; another release may have different loader, side or dependency requirements.

  2. 02

    Bring the mods it needs

Install project 4069, Jaunt: Entity Movement System first. 1 required mod still needs checking for this exact setup.

  3. 03

Put it on the correct side

It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional.

  4. 04

    Pick the file you checked

Use the “Get this file” button beside 1.0.3. It opens that exact file at the source.

About this project

What does Equus: Wild Horses 2.0 add?

Equus: Wild Horses 2.0

This mod is pretty much my successor for the original Equus: Wild Horses mod,
After the release of the Destrier I wanted to update the wildhorse model as well, but we ended changing so many things accross the whole mod that I decided to make it a seperate mod. Yes you can technically use this and the original equus (they're fully separate) at the same time, but I recommend switching over to this version alone when you can (but note that these horses do not replace the existing equus horses)

This mod combines what you know and love from Equus with some of the new improvements and QoL changes we made in Equus: Medieval Horses ^^

Now a bit more about the horses in this mod;

The Ferus horse is a fictional species of wild horse based on eurasian wild and feral horses (both living and extinct), I especially drew inspiration from the Przewalski's horse and mongolian horses hence the larger head and stout body (with some artisitic liberties taken as well of course :3)

These horses spawn in herds, these can either be regular herds or smaller bachelor herds. They can be pretty skittish so you might need to lure them with food into a fenced pen or pit or chase them into one. Once trapped you can tame them by riding them repeatedly.
Once tame you can equip them with a ferus saddle and bridle to ride them. If you've equipped them with a medallion you can also call them with a Jaunt Flute, not the regular bone flute.

If you're unsure where stuff is equipped on the horse make sure you've got the interaction help overlay enabled (CTRL N), it'll show you where what goes and what keybinds to press

Currently includes:

  • The Ferus horse (with genelib coat genetics and different age stages)
  • Ferus specific saddles and bridles (they can use vanilla saddleblankets and saddlebags)

Roadmap:

  • A gene checker of sorts
  • Crossbreeding
  • More variants for roan and tobiano
  • Biomes support

Known issues (not necessarily caused by this mod):

  • Any mount or vehicle entity has a chance to be despawned by the game when the game crashes or a chunk loads too quickly, the ownership marker does sometimes survive even if the entity doesn't (this doesn't stop you from claiming a new one)
  • If you're using the sprint toggle setting then the snaffle bit bridle won't work as intended, consider either using a curb bit bridle or disabling sprint toggle

Dependencies

To use this mod you need to have the following installed:

if you want to use the config you need to have configlib and its dependencies installed (on both server and client in multiplayer)

Recommended mods

  • Tack and Equipment (adds a bunch of new saddles and bridles that also work on the Ferus horse starting with version 1.3.0)
  • Footprints (adds lil hoofprints)
  • Natural fertilizer (if you feed your horse it'll make manure that you can turn into fertilizer for your farm)
  • Elk Physics (adds smoother stepup and allows you to ride through leaves)

Found a bug?

When reporting a bug please list the following in your comment:

  • What version of equusferus, jaunt and genelib you have installed
  • What version of the game you're on
  • What events led up to the issue occuring, can you recreate the issue, if yes then how?
  • Does it occur when only equusferus, jaunt and genelib are installed?
  • Does anything weird pop up in the client-main and server-main logs?

Comments that just say "this doesn't work" without any additional information do not help me

Please remember that I work on this mod in the limited free time that I have outside of my fulltime job, it can take me a while to find and fix bugs

FAQ

  • Can you use a boneflute for the horse?
    • No you have to use the Jaunt flute and bind it to the horse first using the relevant toolmode
