What does kris-patch-toolsmith add?

A small server-side fix for the Toolsmith mod.

What it fixes

Toolsmith lets you reforge tools, reworking a tool at a workbench to improve or change it. For certain tool shapes, the reforging step hits an error and the attempt is cancelled partway through.

Nobody gets kicked and the game doesn't crash, but the reforge you were trying to do fails instead of finishing. This patch lets those reforges complete normally.

Do you need it?

Install it if your server runs Toolsmith and players report that reforging sometimes fails or errors out on certain tools.

How to install

Put the mod file in your server's Mods folder.
Restart the server.

No configuration needed. It only needs to be on the server, not on each player's game.

Requirements

Vintage Story 1.22 or newer
Toolsmith (the mod this fixes). If Toolsmith isn't installed, this patch simply does nothing and causes no harm.

Good to know

It's safe to remove at any time; it doesn't change your save or your world.
It doesn't change how reforging works or its balance, it only stops the error so the reforge can finish.
In the rare case where a reforge still can't be completed cleanly, the patch stops it safely early. The result is a tool that's slightly less worn than expected, never a broken or invalid one.

Under the hood, for the curious

Toolsmith's reforge generator reads past the edge of its working grid in two places without checking the boundary first. The fix keeps those reads inside the grid, and adds a fallback that safely ends the attempt if an edge case still slips through. The number of times the fallback kicks in is counted and logged when the server shuts down.
