About this project
What does BetterQueue add?
I saw a lot of frustration with the launch of a new popular server where people waited hours for the queue and then crashed at the end or had to redownload 1 mod and move to the back of the queue again. I felt this is an oversight so I changed it.
Server side only, players don't need to install anything.
What it does:
- When someone joins the queue, the server sends them its mod list right away (configurable). If they're missing mods, they get the download prompt immediately instead of after waiting through the whole queue.
- If someone disconnects from the queue (to download mods, crash, whatever) and comes back within 10 minutes (configurable), they get put back where they would have been instead of the back of the line. The line keeps moving while they're gone so they don't lose any progress.
- If someone crashes while loading in, or crashes/leaves in their first 5 minutes after getting in (no audio, menus broken, etc), they go back to the front of the line when they rejoin instead of the back. Their in-game slot isn't held open while they're gone, the next person in line gets it, they just get priority in the queue.
To keep this from being abused, kicks and bans never count, and each player can only use it 3 times an hour (configurable). All of it can be changed or turned off below.
Your server needs the queue turned on for this to do anything (MaxClientsInQueue above 0 in serverconfig.json).
You can find the config under: VintagestoryData\ModConfig\BetterQueue.json on the server
checkModsWhenQueued: true/false, sends the mod list when someone joins the queue. Default is true
keepSpotMinutes: how many minutes someone keeps their spot after disconnecting. Also how long someone who crashed after getting in has to rejoin. 0 turns it off, max is 1440 (a day). Default is 10
keepSpotAfterJoining: true/false, gives people their spot back if they crash while loading in or right after getting in. Default is true
afterJoiningMinutes: how many minutes after getting into the world still counts. The timer starts once they're actually in the world, so crashing on the loading screen always counts no matter how long loading takes. Default is 5
countLeaving: true/false, counts leaving the game too, not just crashing (for people restarting to fix something). Default is true
maxRejoinsPerHour: how many times one player can get their spot back after getting in, per hour. 0 is no limit. Default is 3
If you're updating from 1.0.0 the new settings get added to your existing config on startup.
Settings can also be changed live with commands (needs controlserver):
/betterqueue - shows current settings
/betterqueue keepminutes 10 - keepSpotMinutes
/betterqueue modcheck on - checkModsWhenQueue
/betterqueue afterjoin on - keepSpotAfterJoining
/betterqueue afterjoinminutes 5 - afterJoiningMinutes
/betterqueue countleaving on - countLeaving
/betterqueue maxperhour 3 - maxRejoinsPerHour
/betterqueue move <PlayerName> <QueuePosition> - moves someone in the queue to that spot (1 is the front, a big number puts them at the back). They keep the new spot if they disconnect and come back. Use /list clients to see who's where
/betterqueue reload - reloads the config if you edited the file by hand
Saved spots are only kept in memory, so they reset if the server restarts.
Made for 1.22.7. It patches some of the server's queue code, so if a game update changes that the mod turns itself off and puts an error in the server log instead of breaking anything.
If you have any issues with this mod, please comment and I will look into it.
if you think this mod needs art and would like to make some, let me know and i'll upload it with credit.
