About this project

What does Darkened Spawns add?

A simple, server-side mod that changes the maximum light level at which hostile mobs can spawn to 0. This means any area with a light level of 1 or higher is completely safe from new hostile spawns.

What It Does
In the base game, hostile mobs like drifters can spawn in lighting conditions up to and including a light level of 7. This is why you can sometimes find a monster lurking in a seemingly well-lit room.

Now, hostile creatures will only spawn in areas with a light level of 0 WHICH CAN INCLUDE FORESTS. This makes securing your base, mineshafts, and cellars a much more straightforward task.

FAQ

Does this make the game too easy?
Not at all. It just makes the safety rules more consistent. Caves, deep ruins, and the surface at night are still incredibly dangerous until you actively light them up. The challenge is now in exploring and bringing the light with you, rather than meticulously counting blocks between torches in your home.

Does this affect Temporal Storms?
No. Spawning mechanics during temporal storms are handled separately and are not affected by this mod. Drifters will still spawn on the surface during a storm, regardless of light level.

Will this conflict with other mods?
It is extremely unlikely. This mod only patches a single value (maxLightLevel) in the entity JSON files for hostile mobs. It should be compatible with almost everything.
