Truth and Beauty: Seasonal Animal Breeding

Depends on Genelib.

This does exactly what the title says: Adjust the timing of animal breeding to match the in-game seasons.

What that means:
- All pregnancy lengths are set realistically according to the length of the game's years, along with the time it takes for the offspring to reach adulthood.
- Certain species will only mate at certain times of the year, timed so that when the pregnancy is over, it will usually be spring or summer. For instance, bighorn sheep will mate in late fall, carry the pregnancy through the winter, then after 6 months give birth in late spring.
- Other species can breed year-round, for instance hyenas and gazelles.
- Seasons adjust to match the hemisphere, so if you travel to the Southern Hemisphere where the seasons are opposite, the animals will breed at their usual season of the weather, even though that happens at a different month of the year.

 

Note that this can make breeding quite slow! Many species take more than a year per generation. So you may want to use this with 3 or 6 days per month, or on a server set to keep running even when all players are offline.

 

Affects all vanilla animals that breed except chickens, which already stop laying during the winter. If you install a mod that makes more vanilla species breed, it will affect them too, except bears and fish. Note the pig breeding is based on the European wild boar, not the domestic pig.

Also includes compatibility for animals from the Fauna of the Stone Age mod series thanks to Kwyl!

 

This feature was split from Truth and Beauty: Detailed Animals into a separate mod. You can use both mods together to get all features from both, in particular, Detailed Animals will make almost all animal species able to breed.
