Quick answer

Which Floating Damage Text! release should I use?

Updated 4 months ago
Latest stable file 2.0.0
Game version 1.22.0, 1.22.1, 1.22.2
Loader Built-in Vintage Story mod system

Where it goes

Is Floating Damage Text! required on the client, server, or both?

It must be installed on the client. Installation on the dedicated server is optional.

Client Required
Dedicated server Optional
Loader for this release Built-in Vintage Story mod system
Required install it here Optional supported, not mandatory Not supported do not install here Source doesn’t say do not assume

This release supports both sides, but the source does not require it on the server.

What else does Floating Damage Text! 2.0.0 need?

2.0.0. Change the file and its required mods may change too.

No extra mods listed for this file

This file does not list any required mods. Do not add a library just because a different file uses it.

About this project

What does Floating Damage Text! add?

Tired of checking the damage log? This puts floating damage text on screen, MMO style. This is primarily aimed at Combat Overhaul but it supports vanilla now!

Note: For 1.22, maltiez isn't updating combat overhaul, and so the fork should be used instead (also, there seems to be some issues with using this with combat overhaul fork. I will try to get around with fixing this as soon as I can). Vanilla just works.

Current features

  • Damage floats up from hit location
  • Juicy crits! (combat overhaul only)
  • Customizable text sizing, including scaling smaller with distance and larger with crit/headshot
  • Scale damage text based on damage dealt for bigger dopamine hit
  • Configuration support (see screenshots for all the configuration options) with json file (ModConfig/DamageNumbers.json) or ConfigLib
  • Separate color option for healing and different damage types
  • Icons for each damage type in the game (can be disabled in config)

NB: None of the configuration options require restarting the game/rejoining the server, if using ConfigLib.

Roadmap

  • Line of sight support (toggleable on server side)
  • More server side config options, like max distance. Currently all the configurations are client side
  • Pixel fonts/icons that are more inline with the VS aesthetic

Notes on Vanilla Usage

  • Crits don't exist in vanilla, so the crit settings won't do anything. I could add in optional vanilla crit logic later?
  • Most vanilla weapons seem to do blunt damage, like the falx and the spear
  • Doesn't require any configuration; if overhaullib mod isn't loaded, it will fall back on vanilla methods
  • Vanilla doesn't have locational hit damage, so the number you'll get is going to be the same given the same weapon and enemy combo (I think?)
